Show Doctors Clinic To Open In Panguitch The first unit of the new Garfield Memorial Hospital complex, a physicians' clinic, will open July 21. The $50,000 clinic, built by Garfield County, is adjacent to the new hospital, which is scheduled to open August 1. The clinic houses three physicians, newly-recruited to the area under the University of Utah Physicians' Shortage project of the National Health Service Corps. Dr. Harry Cavanagh and Dr. Donald Lappe are already practiciing in Panguitch and will be joined by Dr. Stanley Bezak the latter part of September. Dr. Cavanugh is a graduate of University of Colorado Medical School and has completed an internship at Presbyterian Hospital in Denver. He has agreed to spend at least two years in Panguitch. Dr. Lappe, who holds an electrical engineering degree from Princeton, earned his M.D. at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. He filled an internship at Dartmouth Hospital and a Public Health residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. He will be in Panguitch for one year. Dr. Bezak, a native of Minnesota, graduated from University of Chicago Medical School and filled an internship and a residency at Cleveland, Ohio, Metropolitan General Hospital. He spent the past year in a family practice residency at University of Colorado in Denver. The young physicians succeed ailing Dr. Sims Duggins, who has practiced in Panguitch since 1942, and Dr. Carl D. Lusty on the hospital staff. The physicians share a 2600 square foot clinic, which includes a reception area, business office tpace, eight examining rooms, and a small laboratory. Clinical laboratory and X-ray services for out' patients are provided in the hospital. Construction of the clinic began May 2 of (his year, under the direction of Otho Bulkley and Jay Talbot. Much of the work was subcontracted by local firms, and it was completed at the very modest cost of about $20.00 per square foot. |
