Show Golden Age' Gardens Aid Garfield Senior Citizens At least five community gardens are being grown in Garfield County primarily ear marked for the "golden agers" that no longer have the capacity to get out and dig and scratch in their own gardens. One garden is being grown in Tropic under the direction of Lael Chynowth for the Bryce Valley Golden Agers; one garden in Escalante under the direction of Leah Griffin and three gardens in Panguitch under the direction of Verl Matthews,, Maxine Crosby and Bert Mturiage. The groups involved with the planting, weeding and har vesting of the garden under the direction of those mentioned above are the Snap Program, the USU Extention Service, Vista Volunteers, church groups, (all denominations) scout groups, 4-H groups and individual interested citizens of their own particular community. In Panguitch the garden grown behind Maxine Crosby's home Is being taken tare of by Cri Schow, Greg Schow, , Robert Tebbs and Lynn and Layne Crosby under the direction of their 4-H leader, Maxine Crosby. ) The garden between Verl Matthews and Wilf ord Roes is a produce garden with peas, lettuce, table beets, radish, tweet corn, cucumbers, summer squash, onierw, and an experiment on .hutting cabbage and cauliflower at this altitude from seed, The garden by Bert Marriages is producing po'ttoes. Radishes and lettuce are now available and within a couple of weeks some of the beets will have to be thinned. If any of the golden age people in Panguitch would like to get any of these garden produces they are en- couraged to help themselves or call one of the persons in charge of these projects. Everyone is invited to come out, look at the progress and are encouraged to come help with the gardens. |
