Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY The clouds gather but before they can drop much moisture the wind takes them elsewhere and the whole area is suffering. Some dissatisfied citizens called a meeting with the water board and gained one half inch but when the water is gone that is it if we do not get some storm. The heat is holding up well. Lincoln Lyman got his cast on and is home to wait three weeks and go back; Mont Griffin is in the Panguitch hospital recovering from a heart attack, he has his good and bad days. Vernon Griffin and daughter Mable went to Richfield where Mable waited and Caroline Eyre took Vernon on to Salt Lake City to get Hazel and Alan. The doctor told Hazel to keep him quiet but they did not tell her how to accomplish that. He is to wait six months then go back for surgery and have a metal plate to replace the shattered bones that were removed. Gloria and LaMar Grade have another girl, they are home from the hospital doing ok, this makes one more great grandchild for the Vic Cot-tarns. The Mitchells, Ed, Veda, Theron, Dixie and girls, and Garland and Ruth of Cedar City went to San Diego for the wedding reception of Jennie Lynn, daughter of Jerry and Gayla. She married Dale R. Dykstra also of San Diego. It was so near morning when they got home Ed stopped off in Panguitch where their work is. He figured Harvey Llston would bring the State pickup but he had taken his own so he could join his family in the land northward, Ott Roundy and Slim Alvey were going to Richfield for a distributor so they took the pickup to Panguitch. Jim Alvey moved his wife and son and mother-in-law to Orem Sunday and Harvey will Join them on the long weekend. Beth Llston is In Salt Lake City with Utah-na and Elvonn Poulscn so they will all get together. The new-lywcds, William and Jetta Mitchell went to St. George to meet her sons who were coming from the State of Washington on vacation. The Rol Porters had Kenneth and Marie Griffin and Deloa's girl from Provo, also granddaughter Jody Mclnclly from Mesa, Arizona. Thell and Artoise Griffin and daughter of Henderson, Nevada visited relatives here. Tho Hode Alveys had daughter Geneal Frazler. granddaughter Pat Hansen of Salt Lake City here for a week, Thelma Smith and famllv came from Henrlevllle. Mary Ellen and Hynjm Coleman had Alfred and Ada Heaps of River-ton. -Nancy and Charlie Everett took Julie Droubay and Dcnise Alvey to Salt Lake City to spend a week with Julle'g i grandparents. Others having business In the capltol were Geraldine and Lane Liston, Norm and Ardis Christensen went to Phoenix to take some things to the newlyweds, Caro-line and Vergene Porter accompanied them. Hope Norm did not have to make the trip in his sock feet, he was down town that way trying to find some boots to fit him. Fon and Starns Mecham and Raylene Alvey went to Cedar City to get Janecn Alvey who finished stay in Las Vegas; others going to Cedar City were Theron and Dixie Mitchell, Leah iher Griffin and Mrs. Bill Nell, Lo la Zenz, Marjie Spencer and Mary Steed. Arnold, Deon and Raylene Alvey, Ethyl Griffin, Rolaine Lymn and family were in Panguitch visiting the sick and performing various duties. Many Forest employees stopped off here for food and drink enroute to Boulder to help fight fire. Linda and Bill Overall and daughter moved to Ely, Nevada where he has employment. Our kids, ReNae and Sherman Bundrant and three kids came from Boise, Idaho for a week's vacation. Hazel and Spence Haycock spend the week at the Pines and he comes home weekend she does when her job will permit, they were sporting a new pickup last weekend. The Bob Mitchells also have a new pickup. The Alfred Chionos had visitors; his mother Bessie Oldham of Salt Lake City and Mr, and Mrs. Lee Pierson of Murray. Bonnie Chiono had a birth day anniversary and got two puppies, they are both lap size now but one will grow up to be much too large for a small lap. Billle Davis and Ches Lay had business in Panguitch. Don Coleman and family went to Teasdale to visit his father, Parley Coleman. Gurena Robinson had her mother Rhoda DeLang here from Koosharem. Blake is able to work now In the Valley Finance office but has Sox and Effie Spencer running the pool hall. The Spencers had son Harlan and wife Wlnna here from Las Vegas, they also visited Grant Liston. Grant lives alone as son Lee went back to Cedar to college, majoring in music and social relations. Mark took that schooling In driving dlesel trucks and has a job driving between Omaha, Nebraska and California, and he really likes it. Don Heap and family went to Hatch to visit his folks then Don went to Provo to attend five weeks of summer school, his folks loaned Deanna a car to bring home. John Moosman, his wife and baby of White Rock came here to hunt up relatives and family history, he is the grandson of the John Moosman who lived here. They visited with Verda and Beum-ont Griffin and took pictures of family relics. Verda heard from son DeVoe Scoville that he was being sent to Idaho to open up a new Dept. store and do the advertising, it will take around two weeks to get the personnel hired and working. Tho Randal Lymans have Dick and Mary and three boys here from Calif, Usher and Eva Spencer went to Provo for the wedding of Bruce Cottam who is the 2nd son of Garl and Patsy Cottam, he exchanged vows with Cheryl Zabrlskie of Orem in the Salt Lake Temple. La Rae Roundy and Max K. Piiel ps of San Francisco visited Ne-thclla Woolsey. The North ward Bishopric took six car loads of young people to Richfield to swim, or do something they can't do here. The heat dried up all the water. To show how hot Is Is, the Mollln Brothers tried to tar a roof and it would not stay on. Ott and Hilda Roundy went to Monroe and brought back granddaughter Cheryl and a camper. Starns and Fon Mecham at tended the Hatch reunion at Tropic Reservoir and returned in time to get to Sacrament meeting In the North ward where the outgoing Bishop Vernon Spencer, his wife Ru-la and daughters Anna Lee and Camille talked, Areola Gates played an organ solo. Vernon was Bishop ten years and wore out several rics. Speaking of rics Hal Shurtz Is a member of the new one. The ones going out were presented trophies, and punch and cookies were served to tho crowd. The South ward program was put on by the Bill Nell family, their nephew Reno gave a poem and sons Eric and Lenard talked, so did Mr. and Mrs. Nell. Ernel and Ferl Porter were in town. Planne Alvey and daughter Nadene went to Fillmore to the races. Reeves and Laura Baker have son Wllmer here from Missouri, Freeland and Phyllis Alvey have daughter Loralne and family here from Texas, they say they have come to stay. The Hal Shurtz's had Valeree and Stanley Hun-tlncton here from Cedar City. Whitey an'J Maralda Porter have son Marvin's kids here, Natalie and Donnle from Phoenix. Betty Alvey went to Salt Lake City with son Steven and wife, Steve Is going Into the (continued Inside) ESCALANTE , (continued from front page) Air Force. 1he Sox Spencers heard from son Bradly In Germany, he has made PFS, is in the Army Security and wants the address of Emmorn Dodds and some news from home. Clella Woolsey got the Citation presented by direction of the secretary of the Army called the Army Commendation medal to her son Specialist four Danny E. Woolsey for meritorious achievement 1 n support of the U.S. objectives in the counterinsurgency effort in the Republic of Vietnam. Danny distinguished him self while serving as a helicopter repairman during military operations throughout military region 1, Republic of Vietnam. His devotion to duty were In keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army. And may we add upon his home town, his relatives and friends. Baptismal services were held Saturday, those going under were Billie and Tammy Spencer, Dawnie Barney, Jalynn Haws, and Kim Lyman. The Merlo Kay Woolseys had a visit from her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schiller and daughters Mary Kae and Joan of Sparta, Wis. Louise Mounteer is clerking in the Munson Grocery, we suspect that it was the air conditioning that attracted her. Slim Alvey caused a lot of adverse criticism by trapping a skunk and kicking up such a stink in the neighborhood, but it was the fault of the two Dons, Heap and Coleman. Don H. built his house on their trail they traveled to go to the Coleman barn for conventions, and Don C. got rid of his chic kens so they had nothing to lunch on so naturally went td Slim's coop. There is another hanging around but he avoids the trap. Yes, Escalante is planning a celebration for the glorious 24th. Friday, will feature a Little League ball game followed by a Miss Escalante contest. Saturday morning the youngsters will hold a parade followed by the adults parade, then a progrdm. Afternoon, a carnival featuring children's races and more fun things will be at the tennis court, that is followed by a barbeque at the North ward church grounds, then a rodeo at the race track featuring bull and cow riding, calf scramble and a variety of races, see Robert Llston for details, then of course there is a dance at night. j Everyone wants to rise to i the top and draw a wage that's j fair, there's a difference be- j tween being on top and being up in the air. |
