Show Escalante Chit Chat FAY Al.VEY - Mean old January stays so cold cars will not start, water pipes freeze and that snow looks like it had come to stay. The range cattle are freezing on the bedground and folks are just struggling to survive, hoping it will warm up. Tough luck haa moved right in with the Karl Thurbert; on top of their big loss their water pipes broke and the oldest girl Jane fell on the ice and broke her arm just above the wrist, she was taken to Panguitch for X-rays and a cast. Lillian Coleman is in the Panguitch hospital recovering from double surgery. Don took her over but the doctor sent him home as he had a cold, Lizzie Porter stayed right with her until she came out of the dope and would be OK. Don went to Wayne County and got his parents, the Parley Colemans and brought them to sty with the kids as he had to work. After hearing on the news that a Brent Moosman was involved in a serious traffic accident in Salt Lake City, Lizzie Porter called relatives up North and found it was their nephew who was raised here. He is in the University Hospital with a concussion, numerous cuts and bruises but is in fair condition. Another car rounded a curve on his side of the road and they hit head on. John and Lola Zenz are having quite a winter; she got a mysterious bump on her leg and knew neither the cause nor cure, but Dr. Kazan is treating her and it is better. John has so many basic ailments that each one develops complications so he is tortured regular hours plus overtime. Ronnie Wooley went North to visit his grandparents, the E Wooleys iin Orem and Neal in Salt Lake city and then to his doctor for a checkup, he looks much better. The Wooleys really enjoyed their family being home; Neal has three boys and a two-year-old girl who they met for the first time and, of course, she is adorable. Jed Smith flew back to Page with Dr. Kazan and is hospitalized having texts, he has been ailing several weeks. Fon Me cham had to lay off work, ahe slipped on a wet floor and pulled everything out of shape She works at Whltey's Cafe. Whitey and Maralda are real ly grateful to their help who kept things going while they were up North, and to the many friends who sent letters and cants and visited them. Lynn bnd Garna Mclnelly have moved to Cedar City where he will attend college Danny Woolsey was home for the weekend and lost bis billfold, if anyone finds it he would appreciate getting It back, it contained a Texaco credit with the name of Hardy Woolsey, his late father. Ross Woolsey has a new car. Eph Coombs took Dicey to Prove for surgery, she is in the Utah Valley Hospital and was mighty sick. He stayed until she was feeling better, then came home. The Porters, Rol, Mina, Iris and Marie, were in Panguitch, Zella Alvey accompanied Iris. Ron Mecham and Dale Rider came from Cedar City to see about working on Don Kelly's house. Don and Judy entertained all of Don's employes and their wives at a holiday party in Whitey's Cafe. Dixie Mitchell entertained the friendship Club. Sox and Effie Spencer went to Arizona to meet daughter Effie Kae and bring her home to visit. The Hal Shurtz home was bursting with activity all during the holidays; Dean's boys, Raymond and Gary Dean stayed there, Vld was home and Fer-rel Brinkerhoff of Tropic was a house guest. The class of 62 held a class reunion there and Geneal entertained her Guide Patrol. And that is not aU; Hal had to be at a meeting and breakfast of the Board of Directors of the Lions Club at Whltey's Cafe at 6:30 A.M. The Social Register was too crowded to have it any other time, they are discussing an ice skating rink. Many of the males went to Tropic for stake priesthood and High meetings. Marion Willis, of HenrievlUe visited the Zenz home here. Dennis Cowles got a call to fill a mission to Alaska, he goes Into the Mission Home January 29th along with his cousin Stanley Stowe. Kay Grtes registered for college at CSU. He loads his little car going and coming with nice coeds. Our ball boys played Piute and beat them on their own floor. Many of the townspeople went to give them moral support. The High School has a student tiacher from Logan, named JerryCunningham. a distinctive looking fellow. John Droubay and Lorell and Nelda Munson had business in Salt Lake City. Leon Bergstrom, Drilling Engineer for Tenneco Oil Company, came to oversee activities here while Joe Murray took a vacation Reeves Baker !ok his car to Richfield to have the deer dents taken out, he came back with Vernon Spencer who (continued on back page) ESCALANTF ( continued ) was out there after feed. Others we heard of having business there were the Alveys, Sarinh, Deon. Jim and Myself and Flora Leibenguth. Slim went after coal but it is sur prising how many coal yards were out. We did get some, finally. Wanles and Dena Al-vey came from Arizona to get out of the snow, boy were they surprised! If you see S. J. Al-vey and figure he is really putting on weight, don't be fooled, he is just wearing all of his clothes so Mother cannot work them up in her rug. The Marvin Mounteers heard from son Paul in Korea, he is not overworked, says he has nothing to do and a truck to do it in. His Job is to keep all of the radios ready to use. You work and save a lifetime for the nest egg that you need, but when you go to spend it, it's only chicken feed. |
