Show THE BASKETBALL WHIRL Escalante Moquis Trounce Thunderbirds Valley Buffaloes Dump Panguitch 'Cats Last Friday's opening round in the Garfield Loop of Region Seven Basketball Just about showed where the power is this season The Valley Buffaloes out-steadied t h e Panguitch Bobcats on the Orderville floor to win by 57 to 42 score. Pan guitch shot its bolt in the first half when they outscored the Buffaloes for a half-time lead of 21 to 18. But. after a half-time skull session with coach Newby, the Buffaloes came thundering back to outacore the 'Cats by eighteen points In the second half winning by the fifteen point margin. That same evening Coach Evan Excell took his rejuvenated Moquis to Junction to entertain the Piute Thunderbirds in about the same way the lions entertained the martyrs. Escalante beat the T-Birds just a bout as badly as Valley beat Panguitch. Escalante won by lop-sided 54 to 40 score. Piute tried to solve the Escalante attack by buttoning up Griffin only to find that Button himself was busting out all over.lt was a case of, 'Button. Button. Who's got Button?" Griffin scored 12 points for the Moquis and Button rapped in 10 markers. High-score men for Panguitch were LeBeau 11, and Or ton 10 But Workman of Val ley put every body else in the shade with his whopping 26 points. His teammate Roundy contributed 11 points towards the Panguitch rout. Chrlstensen of Piute with 10 points was the only player of the four teams to hit in double figures Valley at Escalante on Friday, January 12, ahould be the game worth travelling to see. That same evening Piute goes to Tropic to take on the Bryce Valley Mustangs - first chance the Mustangs (who drew a first round bye) get to show their wares in regular loop competition. Panguitch sits this one out on a bye, but has its work cut out for it on Saturday when the one-win Bobcats host the one-loss Kanab Cowboys in a non-league contest. Kanab revenged that early two-point lost at the hands of Valley by really trimming the Buffaloes in a return match. |
