Show New Industry For Escalante Escalante has welcomed another industry. Shaw Hakes Engineering Co., Inc. began moving Its operations Into Escalante last fall and has since manufactured its first series of Mini-bikes (small motorcycles). It's a young business with great promise, located in the old post office building In down town Escalante. Two of the owners, Dan Hakes and Glen Shaw, are the manager operators. Dan has previously been the manager and part owner of Mesa Cycle Center, a Yamaha motorcycle dealership in Mesa, Arizona. Dan is a skilled technician and an artist, as well as an experienced draftsman. Glen is the mathematics teacher at Escalante High School, having a major In Modern Math and a minor in Manufacturing Engineering. He also has a minor in Chemistry and Physics. Glen has been manager and part owner of Ogden Honda Sales, a motorcycle dealership in Ogden. Glen and Dan were the originators of the businesses they have recently been managing (both were corporations). Last year they established Shaw Hakes Engineering Co., Inc.; sold their other businesses, and moved to Escalante. They believe they have the design that enables them to manufacture the best Mini-bike on the market. Glen has received a patent on the Mini-bike design; he has other patents pending for future manufacturing. These men feel me mountains ana aesens in this area typify the kind of riding Mini-bikes are made for. |
