Show The Weather; Hot And Dry - Forest Service Reports On Deer On East Fork U.S. FOREST SERVICE NEWS The weather for the past week, July 7th to July 14th, was hot and dry. We are still having some cool nights. High for this period was 91 recorded on Thursday, July 7, with the low a near freezing 33' occurring on Wednesday, July 13th. Just a trace of moisture was recorded from the shower occurring on Sunday, July 10. The average day-time relative humidity for the week was 20 per cent. Wednesday night, July 13, 217 deer were counted by spot lights along the East Fork road on the Powell Ranger District. Forest Officers Bruce Hronek, Clair Baldwin and Ron Wilson, State Fish & Game Officers John Kimball and Frank Daly, and Panguitch Wildlife Federation representatives Champ Church and Henderson Johnson all participated in the count. The majority of the deer positively identified by sex were doe. In addition 3 badgers and 1 bobcat were observed. Earlier this month Don Boy-er, Soil Scientist stationed at the Dave's Hollow Guard Station, reported seeing wild turkeys near the head of the East Fork drainage. Clair and Caryl Baldwin are the proud parents of a baby girl born July 10th at the East Millard Hospital In Delta. Clair is the Range Conservationist on the Panguitch Lake District. The Panguitch Lake Ranger District reports the first man caused fire of the season. Through the cooperative efforts of the Boy Scouts the fire was. controlled very soon after it was started. This prevented a large fire which could have burned many acres due to the extreme dry condition of the area. |
