Show Escalante Chit Chat FAY ALVEY The weather stays about the same; warm, cold, windy and 'still no moisture, have not had enough to sprout grain, but still people are trying to plant crops and gardens. Alice Bailey is still hospitalized and has her good and bad days. Deon Alvey spent one night there recovering from minor surg-cr,. Others we heard of having business in Panguitch were the the S. J. Alveys, the Vergene Porters, Arnold Alvey and daughters, and Vernon Stowe. Eliza Mclnelly had a visit from granddaughter Edith Barker or Hcnrleviile. Edson Alvey took his wife Iona to Salt Lake for surgery; Rcl Porter taught Ecfcon's school and La-Faye Bailey Iona's. Rol and Mi-na Porter had a visit from grandson Gerald Thompson and a iilend of Murray. Gerald is married now and came to ga-the up his belongings. A group of married couples surprised Mina on her birthday Saturday night. Euzell Cottam celebrated her birthday anniversary with the help of daughters-in-law Thelma and Golda, Mina Porter, Clarice and Verda Griffin, Sarlah Alvey, Beth Wool-sey and Minnie Davis. Missed last week the Moth-try Day visitors at the Wilforil Llston home, son Donald and family came from Panguitch. Laura Baker had a thirty minute tape from son Wilmcr and family in England, they all talked, even the nine month old baby made her sounds. It was the next best thing to visit with them, Wilmer has been made first lieutenant and has half of his overseas time over with. Thur-man Spencer went to Overton, Nevada for hundreds of tomato plants, Son Lee accompanied him, the setting of them out was a family project. A Riding club meeting was held under the direction of Pres. Glen Luellen to check the results of the race meet. It wad the Lions club that put on the roast beef dinner and the dance. The Ilode Alveys had a short visit from daughter Bene Coffman and children from Sprlngville, Earl left her here while he went to Page to check on. their property there. Ila Al-vey went to Henrleville, picked up her daughter Thelma Smith and went to Cedar City to get both of them new glasses. Nel-da Wllllti had a Sunday visit from some relatives, Alfred and Opal Hatch of Pangultch. Earl and Nethella Woolsey spent Friday and Saturday at the St. George temple. The Vic Cottams" have son Kent- and family home for a visit. Smith Alvey and Dale Lyman are home and finished with the ' construction job in Calif. Doyle Cottam had to go back awhile. A group from the high school started out to take an assembly program to neighboring schools, the bite broke down in Tropic so presented the parts there and came back home. Douglas Haycock took a group of South ward Explorer Scouts to Calf Creek for 4' two night camping trip, the boys were Sharon Griffin, Leland Deuel, Darral Munson, Lynn Button and Jim Alvey. The annual E Day program was held Friday with more favorable weather than last year. The last DUP meeting of the year was held last Thursday along with election. Twila Mclnelly watt sustained as Captain, with Betty R. Alvey and LeNora Griffin vice captains and Mel-etta Cottam as chaplain. Officers held over were Vera Davis secretary, Nethella Woolsey historian, Jane Roundy registrar and Fay Alvey class leader, Lola Zenz Is assistant lesion giver. Darrel Alvey tand Dean Gled-hill went to Spanish Fork for a Quarter horse show. Blake Robinson and Billie Davis took some horses to Boulder for Emeron Peterson to pafsture. The college boys who came home hurried" back to take that notorious exam to decide their fate. Ire ne Mclnelly was home for the weekend. Ronald Guyman took his Senior Seminary students down to the river to meet hk brother with a boat and they took the students on a delightful boat tour that they were very excited about. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward had as speakers Steven Alvey, Robert Wilson, Jerry Mounteer, Gwen Lyman and Bp. Morris Shirts, Robert Wilson played a piano solo. In the North ward the speakers were Kent Griffin, Stanley and Vernon Stowe and Wayne Button, Vicki Shurtz played a clarinet solo accompanied by her mother, Geneal. Lorin and Meletta Cottam had an announcement from tho Robert Waldrons that they have adopted them a 'Second baby boy. |
