Show 1 Escalante Chit Chat I FAY ALVEY f The typical March weather J dried up the mud and blowed it away in dust; there are cloud and breezes, some weak others strong. There has been another Alvey with broken bones; Elthere fell and broke her arm while feeding the chickens. She was home alone as Larry and Billie Chynoweth were In Salt Lake, so she kept it in hot packs until help came. Her son IiOyd got Bishop Morris Shirts to take her to the hospital. Her son-in-law Malt Spencer was all ready in the hospital. Elthere got her arm In a cast and Nel-da brought them both home. Nell Barker was rushed to the hospital and kept for treatment. Buck Lind is also hospitalized following a fracas with a bronco, he has broken ribs front and back, and the bones are pressing his lungs. Klinn Haws was assisting him with a horse belonging to Doyle Cottam when the accident happened so Klin took him to Panguitch. The excitement frightened Klynn's horse and it ran home getting tangled up in the 4 clothes line containing the family wash, and dragged them down the creek. Arnold Alvey was also thrown from a horse, after stating there was not a horse living that could throw him. He did not break what he lit on but it was cracked. Thurman Spencer got word of the death of Richard E. Chestnut, son of Alma and Al-mira Wilson Chestnut who used to live here, he died and was buried at American Fork. Alberta Liston had a call telling of the death of Bud Twit-chell's wife in Phoenix, Ariz-. ona. Bud is the son of the late Eldon Twitchell and was born and raised here. His mother, Ila lives in the State of Washington. Bud is an instructor in a Helicopter school at Fort Es-tes, Virginia and has one more year to stay. Her folks will care for the four children, the oldest 14 and the youngest seven months, until his release. Arnold Button is not well, . and is going through the red tape to get into the Veteran's Hospital. Lamoine Pollock went to San Francisco to a teachers convention, Thelma Cottam took his place in the school room. Mohr Chrlteusen tore his thumb nail off doing mechanic work. Gwen Lyman went to Cedar City for several days. The Blake Robinsons have a new grandson born to the Mate Baughs of Tropic, the Arthur Mclnellys and the Rol Porters have a new granddaughter born to Dave and Yulond Mc-Inelly in Mesa, Arizona. Banker Osmer Nelson and wife Evelyn of Parowan spent the weekend here and seemed to be having a wonderful time. Meletta Cottam was not feeling well so son Byron, his wife and two sons came from Sring-ville to visit her, Smith Alvey, Doyle Coltam and Dale Lyman came from Calif, for the weekend; Smith went to Panguitch for xrays of an injured foot, it was not broken but badly sprained and bruised . The Wilford Roes of Panguitch visited at the Gene Griffin homo. Douglas Haycock and Jeff Thompson went to Salt Lake for some schooling, Barbara and the kids went to Ced-, . ar City, Neta Haycock, Clarice Y i Griffin and Alberta Liston went to Fillmore for school lunch schooling. Wayne and lone Barney went to Provo to visit family members. Caroline Porter is working part time in the Munson Grocery. Champ and Afton Church and daughter Beverly of Panguitch visited here last week. Ivan and Nel-da Willis took son Blaine to Las Vegas to catch his plane back to his station in North Carolina. For the weekend they had son Ellwood and family of Salina and Lowell home from CSU. Shana Goulding was in town getting the patients lined up for the bone clinic in April. Clella Woolsey, Mary Griffin and Kate Porter went to Panguitch to get Kate to the doctor, Dr, Mason was gone and Dr. Dugglns was busy with kids diseases.. Those chicken pox are no joke, I had them several years ago with my kids. Billie Davis"" and "Neta Shirts were in Panguitch for a welfare meeting. Morris accompanied Neta, and the Blake Robinsons went with Billie. Lillian Lyman and Alice Ann Pollock had business in Panguitch. Forest and Ruth Alvey went to Cedar City, then on to Kan-ab to visit son LaDell and family, who came here for the weekend party. That party was quite a success; Minnie and Billie Davis were chairmen cf the food committee In the North ward with Reed and Wil-mirtli Wooley and Walt and Flora Lelbenguth as helpers. Ruth and Forest Alvey were chairmen of the South with Beryl and Retha Shurtz and Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman helping. They fed 185 hungry people a roast beef dinner complete with cream pie. Betty R. Alvey was head of the program for the South ward and June Thorson of the North. The program was a take-off on a USO Show, with Ron Guy-mon and Sharon Marsh as masters of ceremony. The numbers consisted of Areola Gates as Liberace; Lillian Coleman, Red Skelton; Ervin Burrows and Layne Liston, Homer and Jethro; Marlene Haws, Judy Garland; Karl. Tburber, Al Hlrt; Marlene riaws, Betty Alvey and LaFay Bailey, The King Sisters; Fay Alvey, Mama Weber; Wallace Roundy, Ed Winn; Vernon Spencer, Danny Kaye; Colleen Burrows and Louise Liston, Barbara and Bobbie from Lawrence Welk; Thelma Cottam, Kate Smith; Bernlce Wilson, Mollie B; Sher-ral Davis, Nat King Cole; Jim Haws, Eddie Peabody. The Lafayette Alveys from Washington and the Percell Alveys of Las Vegas were here. The Ott Roundys had Renon and Gene Reed of Monroe; the Beryl Shurtzs had son Carlyle and family. Wayne and Venld Bailey, Flora and Jay March-ant came, Haire Bailey was here but drove his own car so he could visit along. The Billie Barkers came from St. George; the Claron Griffins had Dennis and Pauline I -ott and baby. The Starns Mechams had son Ronald, wife Linda, and Virginia Lenard and daughter from Cedar City. Shirley Marsh had her parents, Max and Evelyn Heap, and Virginia Bauer and (continued inside) ' i ' -' ESCALANTE (continued) son, all of Cedar City. The Elmer Moosmans and the Raymond Ormonds came together: Park and Laree Shurtz, Kim and Evelyn Lay and daughter were here. I asked Kim about his father, Ed, he said he is feeling fairly well and takes turns living with his family. The Edson Alveys had daughter' lana home. Mary Griffin took son Eldon to Pangultch to board the bus for Army Service, ClellaWool-sey accompanied them. The girl Ross Woolsey married was named Evelyn Anderson of La-mont, Wyoming, and he has known her for years. David Griffin and Dale Wilson were home from Dixie College, so were all the CSU students. Karl Spencer did not go back as the spring work needed him. Marjie Spencer took her mother, Lola Zenz to Panguitch where she had 14 teeth pulled, she has a few front ones to part with next week. Darrel Alvey and Robert Liston went to Salt Lake for more horses. Others here for the party were Sher-, ril and Mary Davis, the Bruce , Wilsons, Gary Wayne and Don- na Graf. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward had as speakers Lorell Munson and Dale Marsh, Gloria Bailey sang accompanied by Dawn Griffin. The North ward speakers were Sharon Dale and Shirley Marsh and her father, Max Heap, and Dennis Cowles; the Jr. Sunday School sang two songs. The calendar says it is spring, and myriads of little birds sing, if the old weatherman will just please understand, that snow is not what he's to bring. |
