Beryl Shurtz got behind while he was a tourist and he is not quite ready. The Bish Schows and Nellie Bailey got' word that their tiny granddaughter belonging to the Calvin Schows was in the Primary Children's Hospital with a strange ailment, and being observed by Specialists. Effie Spencer is home from the hospital and looks pretty good considering what she went through. Sariah Alvey went back to Panguitch for another checkup, she was accompanied by Minnie Davis, Bonnie Smith and Mae Vonn Taylor. Emma Forsythe and Shirley Smith of Wayne County were visitors at the Arden Taylor home. Mayor and Mrs. Claron Griffin and the Otto Roundys went to Orem to vis-' it their children. Wayne Bar-noy has two granddaughters from Richfield visiting here. Mr. and Mrs. Jewel Langston and family of Salt Lake City were visitors at the Bill Webster home. Thelma Marsh took her daughter Kathleen back to Cedar Breaks to her job and went on to Cedar City; Retha Shurtz and daughter and DeAnna Lyman accompanied her. Bill Griffin and sons went to Henrievllle to get two pigs, one of them did not survive the trip, Bill has a different car. Walt and Maida Segmiller of Ogden are here visiting Jane Roundy. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Cantley ot Leeds are here at the Grant McMullen home. Mary Lyman Is homo after a month's tour with her daughter and son-in-law, the Jewel Harrisons; they visited Texas where the late Vern Lyman had filled an LDS Mission and always talked of going back but never got to. Alburn Griffin was telling me that his son Lynn who is in the Netherlands Mission is assistant to the Publications Secretary and does all the drawings for the mission paper called "The Netherlands .Centennial". This Netherlands Mission is the first to establish a Stake on Europ-can soil. Lynn and his companion were thrown in jail in Belgium for preaching, then when they found' that they were preaching to the prisoners they throwed them out. Lois Reeves came from Ka-narraville to visit her parents, the Lorenzo Griffins, her twin daughters were all ready here. Lorenzo and Ruth got word that their son Gerald who Is in the Navy Air Force has signed up to go to the South Pole. DeWayne Hafen, his wife and their five week old son were here visiting friends, they stayed at the Oris Moyes home, DeWayne is making the Navy a career and is stationed in San Francisco. The Lovell Twltchells have their children Joyce and Clyde Tooman of Arkansas here on vacation, they brought along the dog Wrinkles. Wells Mclnelly came from Vernal to get his wife and part of the children who have been here visiting. . The Bish Schows had Merl and Tom Davenport of Salt Lake as weekend visitors. The Ken Griffins and the Donald Griffins of Provo were visiting relatives here. Mary R. Mclnelly had her daughter Nedra and son-in-law Lawrence Hall and Larry and Joan Haycock of Vancouver, Washington here visiting. Larry and Billi&- Chynoweth mado a business trip to Cedar ' City, Kate- Porter accompanied them.- Melvin Wayne Alvey had a tonsllectomy Thursday in the Panguitch hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Reld and two children of Spring-vllle visited the Melvin Al-veys last Monday Mrs. Reld was formerly Nina Barney arid lived here when a child, she enjoys returning to see the town and old friends. Mr Reld is a nephew of, Mrs. Al-veys. Gordon Stevens had his parents Mr. and Mrs. Lester Stevens of Ogden here for the weekend, his sister Audrey who had visited here a week accompanied them home, she took a few minutes of the time in Sacrament meeting Sunday in the South ward, the other speakers were James Munson and Cllve Bybee of Tropic. Thorley Johnson and fatnlly of Henrleville visited, In the. North ward the heads of the Auxiliary Organ'za tlons took up the time, Alburn Griffin was put in as SUnday School Supt., Lucile Ccwles stayed in YLMIA, and "Theron Mitchell of YMMIA. Areola Gates as Primary President, and Reeves Baker representing the High Council, they have their meeting at (continued inj'de) ESCALANTE night now. The 4 th of July was celebrated rather quietly here with a children's parade and dance. Bell Christcnscn celebrated her 70th birthday anniversary that day with the help of all of her children except sons Larry and Roland and their families. The group was upset about the Pratt grandson getting lost but It came out ok, the family wlsh- cs to thank everyone who assisted in any way in the search for the llttlo fellow. Aunt Susan Heaps and most of her descendents went to Salina for the Tom Heaps reunion, Clarice and Ern.e Griffin went on to Provo to visit son Clem. Bert Roundy took Ernie's job at the Haws sheep herd, he hated to leave as he had a friendly bear who helped him to herd the sheep. Ernie took his granddaughter Jo Lynn to Provo leaving her mother Mary all alone. The Bill Griffins took son Boyd to Panguitch for a medical checkup, thought maybe his appendix was bad, but the Dr. sent him home. Deo Haws was walking on air as his two year old horse won the eight hundred dollar race at Richfield, he made it back in time to attend the Haws reunion at Boulder. There are 273 descendents of Frank and Minnie Haws who were cligiblo to attend and were 76 present, Dee Haws was put In President with Ray L. Alvey Vice, and Janeal Shurtz Sec., most of the local people belonging to the tribe went. Bessie and Albert Gledhill visited here from Provo, Marie and Kenneth Griffin, the Ray L. and the Arnold Al-veys. Verge Spencer took his family to Kingston for the 4th where they fished and visited, Bonnie Rae Spencer accompanied them and stayed for a longer visit. Morris and Neta Shirts have their granddaughter Brcnda Sorenson of Orcm here, Carol Joy Cooper and toddling son spend consider- able time here as Tennessee tis a long way off, they will go there In September, Neta says she has always wanted to go to that state so she will have q motive. Mont Griffin and George Hamilton got layed off the Job at Glen Canyon. The Lorin Cottams and theStams Mechams have different cars. Ivan and Nelda Willis got word of the arrival of a new grandson born to Maureen and Wayne Dean of San Diego, California, they can hardly wait to get there to see him. The most annoying noisy noise to jar you from your sleep, is the buzz of the mosquito in search of tasty meat. |
