Show THE WORD FROM BOULDER BY NETOELLA GRIFFIN Modern ingenuity is always coming up with another device that throw some people out of work. I had thought that I was to be the latest victim, a willing victim, however. Forest Service men have hit onto a system that abolishes the old metal tags in the ears of cows permitted on the summer range?. Tags are replaced by a mere squirt of paint, a very special kind of paint, of course. So I had thought my part of the process would be eliminated, but they say the cows must still be prodded through the shoot and the door opened and closed as usual. The work of operating the levers to catch the cattle by their head is gone and the whole process is speeded up. This Improvement is not enough to make people happy though, what with their having to take a sixty-two per cent cut in permit rights as apart of our range improvement program. Cattlemen are also pessimistic about the cut in cattle doing much for range Improvement in the face of a probable 100 per cent Increase In deer on the mountain. Tho marriage and wedding reception for Miss Lor-aine Baker and Farlane Behu-nin was an interesting event this week. The young couple left immediately for a short trip after which they will make their homo at Hatch for the summer while Farlane is employed orr Cedar Mountain, Tho first week of tho fishing season has been generally successful in size of catch-os and enjoyable in family and friendly visits, (continued on back page) BOULDER Tho Cecil Grleners had a full house. Guests included Mr and Mrs Kenneth Griener of Salt Lake, Mr. and Mrs Allen Worthen and Allen Ladd of Panguitch, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Lee, and Mr. and Mrs. Terry Anderson, Mrs. Lee was a girlhood friend of Mrs Griener. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Moosman and family of Ogden were at Lorin Moosmans. I have enjoyed visits from Mrs. Oneta Shurtz of Garland and Mrs. Jannett Mortensen of Salt Lake. Col. and Mrs. Richard Griffin of Kaysville are here now, that Is, when they are not out fishing. We had an enjoyable day Saturday on the mountain. They met the Howard Larscns of Gunnison yesterday at Downs Reservoir for two days fishing. The Vern Hansens had as guests Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Nelson,, old friends of Holiday. Anna Lee Hansen was one of the seven girls taken by Miss Julio Morris of Escal-ante High School to SaltLake last week to participate in the MIA Youth Choir. One of my best experiences of the week was attending the banquet at Panguitch Thursday evening honoring William G, Bruhn, candidate of Cong-rcsman from this district. Democrat Calvin Rollins of Salt Lake and Republican Ferdinand Etickson of Monroe both gave excellent talks. It was indeed heartening to see and fee the warm regard with which Bill's candidancy is held by the people that know him best. As Mr. Rollins pointed out, small townspeople can be and generaly are very kind to one another in time of trouble, but let one of their number dare to lift his head above the rest to aspier to eminence, and they are prone to cruel criticism. |
