Show Outstanding Students Win Multiple Scholastic Honors William J. Hurst HONOR STUDENT William J. Hurst, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hurst and son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm D. Hurst, graduated May 26 from Weber High School in Ogden. It vas the largest class in tho history of the school, 508 graduates. While at Weber, Bill J. was active In sports, playing tackle on tho main foot ball team. In his sopphomoru year, he placed second in Spanish at the Festival of Languages at BYU. Ho was Senior representative on the Student Council, He received a eiuperio Achievement award from Ogden Chamber of Commerce Patty Ann Olds for maintaining an 'A average for three years in High School. Bill J. plans to attend the Utah State College this fall. U of U Scholarship Winner Torla Henrie, daughter of Mrs. Nina Hatch, was awarded a scholarship to U of U, and presented with the A. L. Elmer award for being the outstanding student of the 1960 graduating class of Pan-guitch High School. Torla was editor of the year book; took first place in the district American Legion oratorical contest, and was a delegate to the model U. N for two years. She attended Girls State In hor Junior Miss Sharon LeFevre year. CSU VALEDICTORIAN Patty Ann Olds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olds, of Toquerville, was named valedictorian of the lower division graduates at CSU. Patty Ann has been very active in both church and school affairs in her two years at CSU. She served as MIA speech director and S'.-c-retary of tho colloge ninth ward. She was an active member of the following sororities and organizations: Lambda Delta Sigma, USEA, Phi Alpha Beta, ROTC Spoasors, and the college debate team which she helped represent in San Francisco, acted as Torla Henrie Homecoming co-chairman, an officer of the Associated Women Students, and participated on the school paper staff. She was also awarded tho USEA elementary education scholarship. Miss Olds plans on attending CSU next year with her luture husband Burdell Henrie of Panguitch. The couple are planning a fall wedding. Awarded Dixie Scholarship Miss Sharon teFovre, graduate of Escalante High School, has been awarded a scholar ship at Dixie Junior College at St. George. Sharon Is tho daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mac LeFevro of Boulder. |
