Show County Agent Advises On Pest Control COUNTY AGENT'S NOTES By Harold Lindsay People, have been asking what is the bet way to control wasps. These small insects can sure deal a hard sting and are better off dead as far as most folks are concerned. An after-dark application of Chlordane or DDT to their nests is a good control with minimum risk. At this time they are less active and likely to be in their nest. The complete nest may be removed after dark by plugging the nest opening with a wad of cotton soaked in carbon tcrachlor-ide. Dislodge the sack and ' put it on a sack that can be burned. Either method is very effective. The flies are getting to be quite a nuisance so let's get out the Diptray or diazinon and sprinkle it around the garbage can area where the flies congregate. This sugar bail will work wonders. I sprinkled some on my garbage can the other day and the next day I could scoop up a hand full of dead flies. You folks who have corn silage should plan to cut it in late dough or early dent stage. Be sure the silage is well packed in the silo and a good cover is put on. This black plastic has proven very helpful to cover the pits with. You have to keep the air out to prevent spoilage. There is not much need of growing silage if you let it spoil. |
