Show Sheriff Candidate Middleton Nabs Two Runaways Recovers Stolen Car George Middleton of Panguitch, who is running for sheriff of Garfield County, proved he really could run when he ran down and captured two runaway teenagers who had taken a pint of half-and-half apiece from the milk route truck George drives. The truck was parked behind Orton's Cafe Thursday afternoon when George discovered the loss. When he sought to question the two boys, one 15, the other 17 years of age, who were seated in a parked car nearby, they took off on foot leading George and a bevy of fleet-footed citizens a merry chase before going to earth in Sam Allen's barn. George convinced them their running was done and delivered them to City Marshall T. R. Houston, who lodged the boys in the city jail. They said they both came from Tucson, Arizona, although the older said his home was in Lancaster, Pa. and he was only "staying" at Tucson. In the glove compartment of the car was a sales slip from a service station in Fre-donia which indicated the boys left the auto's fender skirts there in exchange for gasoline. The FBI has taken over the car. V Sheriff candidate George Middleton with stolen car he recovered, also empty half-and-half container. |
