Show Ask Separate Administration For Bryce Canyon Park It Is noted In the dally newspapers ot the state that Senator Wallace Bennett lifts gone to bat for some fine Improvements for Zlon National Park. While we In no way wish to discourage the Improvement of any recreational area in the state, nor the active participation on the part ot our congressional delegation for the advancement of these areas, The News Is seriously reflecting as to the wisdom In continuing the present administrative procedure in the National Parks of Southern Utah. ' Since these parks were set aside as National Parks by the Congress, the administration ot the park lands at Bryce, Zlon, Cedar Breaks have been ban-died through a stngle administration. The headquarters for , such administration has, ovar these years, been maintained at Zlon National Park, Until the last season, entrance tees at ' Zlon National Park were honored at Bryce Canyon, and vice versa. Last year, however, the fees were changed and a separate admission charge Is now maintained for each park. In as much as the economy ot tho area nerved (by the Garfield County News Is no closely re. latcd to the well being of tho llryco Canyon National Park, wo fool dlsiKKtcd to make a few " oliservntlon at to how that well being might be improved. We feel tliat If a separate administration were net up for Brct Canyon, the park would benefit greatly primarily be. cause the fiscal control of the park would be exercised direct, ly by the person who are In ' charge of the responsibility of carrying out the policies of the National Park System, and who administer and oversee tlio work which Is accomplish? It is our observation jhat with the personnel administer." Ing the funds for these two National Parks, 'living at Zlon would favor that area in which the personnel are residing a-perfectly natural human tend-ancy. We observe that a num- ber or' Improvements have been made at Zlon Park In the past while Bryce Improvements have been sidetracked. , Is It not disconcerting that while Zlon National Park, Grand Canyon, and many other National Parks In our Western region showed a healthy Increase In traffic last year, that Bryce Canyon showed a substantial decrease In visitors. We urge that the civic groups of our area, together with in. teretU-d Individuals, investigate the NNlblllty of separation of tlu park administration. If as a result of your investigation you find that you agree with our observation, why not write the Director of the Park Ser-lce and also our Congir.lonal Delegation to let our wants be I known! I |
