About 375 good roads enthusiasts from different sections sec-tions of Utah, Idaho nnd Wyoming, assomblcd In this city Wednesdny morning as delegates to the second annual Good Roads convention. As a result of their first day's deliberations de-liberations nnd discussions, the movement move-ment for good roads throughout tho Intermountaln section hns been given Impetus, nnd bids fair to advance to a realization even beyond tho fondest dreams of those most vitally Interested Interest-ed In the movement under way. Whllo tho opening session was do-voted do-voted to organization and the preparation prepara-tion of future business, considerable headway was made, especially with roferonco to Improved road conditions for the stato of Utah. A s resolution was offered that the legislature each year build 20 miles of road, ten north and ten south from Salt Lake, until the Idnho and Arizona lines shall have been reached. Governor Willinm Spry was present nt tho afternoon session nnd mado an earnest plea for better roads. Except for a paper by Robert C. Skelton, on "Tho Advantages of Good Roads in tho Eastern Stntes as Compared With tho Poor Roads of the West," the sessions ses-sions were given over to Informal talks and spirited discussions, In which delegates from tho different counties of Utah and from Idaho and Wyoming participated. The second day of the convention was even more interesting than tho first. There were three excellent papers pa-pers arid tho discussion was lively. Tho questions nnd answers Indicated that the delegates aro taking a deep Interest In all that Is being done In tho convention nnd that they recognize recog-nize tho Importance of having good roads In order that transportation may bo easy nnd swift. A resolution was Introduced by a Twin Falls, Idaho, delegate, memoral-Izlng memoral-Izlng tho legislatures of tho states of Wyoming, Utah and Idaho to pass such laws as shnll be necessary for the laying out nnd constructing within with-in these threo states a road to bo known as the TrI-Stato highway, connecting con-necting the capital of the states of Wyoming, Utah and Idaho. |
