Stewart L. Woodford, It was decided that tho celebration should tnko ploco tho week beginning September Sep-tember 20, 1909, nnd that Instead of a temporary "world's fair" thcro should bo dedicated works of lasting benefit to tho people. Tho flrit day of tho celebration, It Js arrnnged, will Ihi devoted to a naval parade or aquatic pageant up tlm Hudson lu which tho navks of the Korld, and especially those of tho Netherlands and Orent Britain, shall bo invited to participate, as well as all mnnncr of morchnnt nnd pleasure craft. It Is recommended that a fea ture- bo models of tho vessels Half Moon and Clermont, tho Netherlands (wing asked to provide tho model of ho former. Tho deep-draught carols ca-rols will go as far as Haverstraw liny, tho Hnlf Moon nnd Clermont, escorted by omaller craft, continuing ps far north as Albany, stopping opposite op-posite the rlversldo villages and cltlet hnd forming the center ot local dem-. onstratlons, Tho flecond day will ho marked bj a land parade and literary, historical 'and musical exercises. Tho third day It Is proposed, flhall bo devoted to the dedication of memorials. One of these will ho tho' Hudson memorial bridge, extending from Inwood Hill tc Spuytcn Duyvli Hill, across Spuyten Duyvlll creek at Its confluence with tho Hudson river. It Is recommended that a public park bo acquired on In-wood In-wood Hill, at the southern terminus of tho bridge, and thnt BUltnble buildings build-ings or monuments be erected there. |
