Show From Australia. Editor Globe: Since I last wrote, I havo had some pleas ant experiences and made several now friends; so mo of them are reading our church works and others our tracts and literature I feel encouraged with the success I have made thus far, still I meet people who manifest the bitterest kind of hatred toward tho Mormons and do all in their power to insult tho Elders even rail at us on tho streets and go about telling all kinds of falsehoods about us. Some have closed their door in our faces and accused us of all kinds of evil. But we know that they must bo warned and the gospel preached to them as a witness before be-fore the end shall come, and wc face such people and their insults boldly for we rcalizo that wc are no better than our leaders. The good work is spreading In this land. Melbourne is tho wickedest city of Australia that I have visited and the people arc worldly-minded, prejudice and Indifferent. Thcro are honest souls among them and we aro endeavoring to Huh them out. Tho saints and friends aro kind to us. The streets of Mclboure arc paved with wood blocks iustcad of stouo as the wood used Is very hard and lasts about fifty years. The Government bellvcs In having hav-ing good roads and streets. Thcro aro few buildings over six stories high as the law limits tho buildings to six stories. The climate is very changable one day la hot and oppressive and the noxt cold and damp. Then there is what tho people peo-ple call tho "hot winds," which aro very severe. This is a very dusty place. They have an ancient way ot cleaning their streets compared with tho American plan. But few of the working class own their own homes. A bulldcra' strike li on at present which makes times rather dull. We have good meetings Sunday evenings and havo held some street meetings recently re-cently that were well attended. I enjoy reading the Globe each month as I receive re-ceive the copies. Will closo by wishing you a Merry Christinas and Happy New Year. Ei.dkk O. L. Wimiox, 09 Somerset St., Richmond, Mclbourue Victoria, Australia. Dec. 22, 1000. i |
