Show 200 LIVES LOST. Germany Visited With a Terrible Terri-ble Thunderstorm. Houses Demolished, Property Destroyed, People Killed, and Thoroughfares Turned Into Rivers. Berlin, July 2. A terrible storm of thunder, hail and rain passed over a large part of Germany last night, causing caus-ing immense damage to property and great loss of life in the villages of Suchtelon, near Diidseldorf. and Sittard in Crefeld. Thirteen bodies have been taken from the ruins of houses. Two hundred is the estimated number of lives lost. At Brunswick the storm assumed the proportions of a cyclone and this morning morn-ing the streets are filled with wreckage. Many houses were demolished and others badly damaged while many thoroughfares were turned into rivers. In the neighborhood of Sprottam in Prussian Silesia hail cut down the grain and did other damage. At Samet Ru-precht Ru-precht near Gratz, the capital of Styria, in Austria, a water spout burst over the town with fearful force and sweeping away the cabins of the peasants, drowning nine of them. Every hour is adding to the story of disaster, and but few places in the path of the storm seem to have escaped. |
