Show HAIL TOJHE DAY. Arrangements All Ready For a Rousing Celebration. The Citizens' Committee Hold Their final Meeting' and Report .Everything: Prepared Pre-pared for a Good Time. The committees on ta-day's celebra tion met in the Courthouse last night and made their final showing. Everything Every-thing was reported in readiness, and Judge Jones in a neat speech, thanked the committees and complimented them highly on their work, and for the energetic spirit manifested. An appropriation ap-propriation of $10 was made to the fire department, and also $10 for the hiring of the band wagon to convey the Enterprise Enter-prise band around to the various houses to be i-err-naded. The meeting then adjourned to meet in the morning and give the glorious Foui th a pl send oil' in Trovo. - - NOTE.- The .West Co-op. were displaying their patriotism yesterday by covering the building with flags and bunting. The stores assumed a holiday ap pearance vesterday and fiagsand bunting bunt-ing were displayed in profusion. The frontj of the East Co-op was covered with stars and stripes. The business houses will not be represented rep-resented in the procession to-day. The majority of them are kicking because the committee did not give them time enough to get a display ready. Judge Jones decorated his house in great shape yesterday with flags and bunting. He was determined that the Fourth should not dawn on him and find him without the national colors floating from his residence. The ladies who have charge of the decorating of the cars of state for the procession deserve greet credit for their work. The card present a lovely ap- Eearanee, and no effort has been spared y the ladies to make this part of the procession a complete success. The Martial band was out on the street last night, serenading the business busi-ness houses. They made a very good showing considering that they have only had two practices. Some of the old warriors, were jubilant over the sound of the fife and dium. The decorations in the Stake Tabernacle Taber-nacle are the finest ever seen in Provo, and great credit is due the committee who have worked so hard. The decorations decora-tions alone are worth coming out to see, and every one attending the ser vices to-day will be well repaid. I lie committee, with Dr. Ilannberg at their head, have worked like Trojans since Thursday morning, and the public should be grateful for such decorations. The Fire Department has just had their i.ew banner finished and it is now a thing of beauty and a joy forever. The body of the "flag is dark blue silk with jiold lettering. On the top of the banner is inscribed: "Provo Volunteer Fire 1 lepartment, Engine Company No. 1," ai;d on the bottom is the motto; "With water and courage we conquer fire." Around the edges is a very heavy gold fringe. In the centre is a picture of the fire engine, painted in oil by Sam Jepperson. The banner has cost the boys $50, which they have paid out of their own pockets. The boys will make an excellent showing to-day. |
