The committee on platform submitted the same platform for adoption a that adopted on July Gtli by the Salt Lake convention. The platform was adopted. W i- Robinson, of American Fork, was nominated for selectman from the north end of the county. Ole Ellison, Sr.. ol 1ehi. was nominated nomi-nated in opposition to W. D. Roberts. Jas. Chipman made a speech in-favor of the gentleman from American Fork. Geo. Webb, of Ixdii, made an appeal for that town, as it had not been represented repre-sented in the county court for over twentv vears. Pleasant Grove and Alpine were in favor of the gentleman from American Fork. Mr. Winn, of 1-rfhi, stated that it had been understood that Mr. Chipman. of American Fork, would be nominated I for the Legislature, therefore he thought j that Lebi should have the selectman. I Mr. Chipman denied that there was I an understanding to nominate a man from American Fork for the Legisla- j ture. , ! Th- question of finance was talked ait for sonic time, and the conveu- iiox then adjourned. Tl. Republican District Convention couvctsed at 2 o'clock yesterday, and was called to order by Don C. Johnson, who was appointed temporary chair man, and II. S. Pyne secretary. A committee of live were appointed on credentials, and another committee of five on permanent organization. While they retired to make their reports, re-ports, Dr. Simmons entertained the convention with a sjeech on Republicanism, Republic-anism, endeavoring to show that under Democratic rule the country had always al-ways Buffered, while the Republican rule was always prosperous to the country. He talked on the tariff for some time. He claimed that the Mormons Mor-mons had alwaye been taught protection protec-tion from Brighara Young down, and he was surprised to bear them to-day say they did not lelieve in it.
