Show LAY DOWN YOUK ARMS. Some thinking people are wont to iXclaim : "How long, O Loud, how Long!" will the Liberals continue to spit yenom at the members of a certain cer-tain church, for no other reason than .hat they choose to exercise that God-jiven God-jiven privilege of believing as they please. The answer is, it will probably continue "until death do us part." some of those men who were at the Liberal, meeting Monday night, will, jeyond question, go down into their graves with a burning hate for that jnurch, and a snarl for every meml.er ' thereof, just as many of the slaveholders slave-holders of the south have carried and will carry to their dying day a Dim conviction in the justice of the 'iost cause." But the reconstruction came, and with it peace, frugality and prosperity. pros-perity. The new era is upon Utah. These malcontents will harness themselves to .lie rear end oi the car of progress md pull backward, but the car will move on just the same, more slowlv probably ban though all pulled together, but it v 1 1 1 move. One by one they will "face about" and come into line, though a few, as long as they have life, will continue to obstruct. That few will nurse their hates as they have done for years, and no power can change them. It is their meat and drink to give vent to such feelings as they did on Monday evening, and we do not ask them to change. It would be useless-to -do so: But to the few younger men and those less rabid we ask you, What do you want, young friends? What more can you ask of the members of that church? They have done all that manhood and reason could dictate in order to make peace. Your party has been calling them for years to come out, and now when all conditions are favorable they nave come. Nor is it a scheme of theirs. Men of .yur own party sounded the trumpet. Who but Judge Kellogg, a member of your party, led out in Provo? Who, in Salt Lake, but Liberal Democrats? They saw the time had come, and they invited in-vited all, irrespective of religious belief, to join the national parties. This was true both as to Democrats and Republicans. Repub-licans. The People's party was ready to lay aside the old strifes and join with you. But now you continue the old, old right. You have nothing new. You have no principles to present, and we ask again, what do you want? Young friends, come out! Don't yon see what wo cau all do for our Utah? Don't you see what you can do for yourselves by burying the past? We don't want statehood now. That is not what the division is for. As proof of j that, we cite you again to the fact that the Mormons didn't, investigate the division. They only fell into line when invite4 to do so. It is time to lay down your arms. |
