In connection with the reception accorded Monday to Manager Man-ager Ferrata, the new Tapal nuncio at Paris, by President Carnot, and nuncio's nun-cio's announcement that he hoped to draw closer the ties existing between the Vatican and France, it is learned that prior to his departure from Rome. Ferrata had a long conference with the Pope and Cardinals Rampolta and Ro-telli. Ro-telli. As a result of these conferences he must have mapped out a line of conduct con-duct for the application in 1' ranee of the republican policy of Cardinal Lavig-erie. Lavig-erie. Tlie Vatican is absolutely decided in suite of the threats and persuasions of the monarchists to continue thepoli- i cy of adhesion to the Republic in order to restore France to the union, and to j religious and political pacification. A ! renewal of the triple alliance will only give strength to this evolution, which will make a new departure in the international in-ternational ecclesiastical policy of the IIolv See. The programme of Ferrata will nsist in applying this principle to I t.he cdilHtitTilioiiRV rich, of the -pnVty of -I M, Pibu in the Chamber of Deputies ; second, in prevailing upon the liishof-s and clergy to make a 6olemn act of ad-, lesion; and, thirdly, to constitute a vast Catholic union in the country outside out-side of the old dynasty parties. The Vatican w ishes above all that monarch-ial monarch-ial parties should not meddle in the movement. |
