Show Thursday, October 22, 2009 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Page 9 Axtell News by AUDREY BOORE This past week was party week in Axtell with the Axtell Fall Party on Wednesday evening. The menu for this dinner featured dinner in a milk can. It had everyone guessing what would be served. Dinner was boiled or steamed pork chunks, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and onions, which were cooked for several hours in clean, new, ten gallon milk cans. It was then served in a large (new, clean) water trough along with green salad, rolls and a variety of fruit cobblers. The dinner was very good and a great thank you to the committee that did all the preparation for this dinner. After dinner everyone was entertained by the Axtell Hillbilly Ladies Band, whose instruments were the bass drum wash tub and toilet plunger, clothes washing board and thimbles, guitar and accordion, along with the ladies singing and dancing. On Saturday morning, the Axtell Relief Society held their Fall Super Saturday with projects you could make for the holidays or yourself, candy making demonstrations and lunch. They also made school bags and tied a quilt for a humanity service project. The ladies enjoyed this outing while many of their husbands were out deer hunting. What an enjoyable Indian fall we have been having the past couple of weeks, but there is snow in the forecast this coming week. The leaves have been coming down like snow the last couple of days. Congratulations to Janell Braithwaite, as the 2009 Gunnison Bulldog Booster Award recipient. She does so many projects around the valley and helps many in both large and small ways. Dalton Burr, son of Steve and Molly Burr was one of four students from GVHS to participate in the All-State Choir on October 10. Nicole Mecham, daughter of Quay and Sharon Mecham, was one of the GVHS Top Dogs selected recently. Nicole is a very busy girl with her horses and High School Rodeo Team, school activities, helping her dad on the farm and many types of sports. GVHS’s fall soccer team recognized their seniors at the game last week. Megan and Morgan Cejudo, daughters of Luis and Rita Cejudo, and Megan Jensen, daughter of Norman and Eliza Jensen, were among those who were recognized. Many college students were home over the weekend as it was Harvest Days and to take part in the annual deer hunt. I hear several people are on the ill list with various types of problems as health, broken bones and flu and colds. Hope all soon return to good health.
