John and Christine John Von Elizabeth Christine are planning to Jackson, MD Jackson, MD Pratt, MD Larsen, NP continue practicing in their clinic through the end of this year, and are also planning to practice again in Gunnison after their mission. We congratulate the Jacksons on their mission call, and wish them the very best in their service. To provide an alternative to care and ease disruption for John and Christine’s patients, two Gunnison Valley Hospital medical staff members will work in the Jackson clinic in Gunnison before and after the Jacksons leave for their mission. Von Pratt M.D., a long-standing physician who has practiced medicine in Gunnison for 33 years, will start practicing in the clinic setting again, starting on November 1, 2009 in the Jackson clinic. Elizabeth Larsen, nurse practitioner, will also help transition with patients by working with Christine every Tuesday in the Jackson clinic until the Jacksons leave for their mission. Appointments can be made with Dr. Pratt or Elizabeth by calling the Jackson Clinic at 528-7752, and also for Elizabeth at her main clinic (Gunnison Family Medicine clinic) at 528-2130. In addition, we are pleased to announce that two new physicians will be joining the Gunnison Valley Hospital medical staff in July of 2010. Drs. Adam Jensen and Steve Embley will finish their family practice residency programs at that time, and plan to start their practices here in Gunnison. We welcome these two new physicians to our community and appreciate their decision to start their medical careers with us. GOVERNOR Continued from Page 1 not believe in tax payer stimulus programs stating that they just create bigger holes today that need to be filled up tomorrow. Herbert’s second priority is having a viable education system, not for just k-12 but also secondary education whether it be a college or trade school, with a greater emphasis needing to be placed on math and science classes. Herbert Page 5 explained, “We cannot grow the economy without education and skills, in balance with current market needs.” This will be a tough challenge explained Herbert with a record number of students enrolling into secondary education classes this year. The Governors third priority is energy development. Herbert stated, “Utah has been blessed with great energy potential. Despite the current economic downturn the energy sector is still growing. We need to work with our natural strengths, not just traditional energy but, natural gas, oil shale, tar sands, geo-thermal, wind farms, bio fuels, hydro plants and solar. “I support coal and oil. Utah needs to lead the way in becoming energy independent. We have more coal than they have oil. “We must find ways for even cleaner coal technology and blending fuels. It is time to think outside the box and build a better mousetrap!” Governor Gary Herbert also spoke briefly on his support for local use of public lands, stating that public lands should be used for more than tourism and recreation. Governor Herbert closed his remarks stating; “We have great challenges ahead of us, but if we can work together we can find solutions. If we pull together we will find strength. I believe Utah is the gold standard, our future is extremely bright. We should be the one to set that standard!” • UP....................................... HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE I can’t let arthritis stand in my way. You have important things to do; you don’t want arthritis slowing you down. Start exercising. Studies show that moderate physical activity — the kind that gets your heart rate up and keeps it up — can reduce your arthritis pain and stiffness and improve your mood. But it’s more than just staying busy. Try to walk, bike, swim or choose any activity that increases your heart rate for at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. You can even try 10 minutes at a time, 3 times a day. With moderate exercise, you’ll start feeling better and be able to do more in just 4 to 6 weeks. That way, you can continue to be strong for the people who need you.
