The Career Fair provides career awareness and exploration experiences that support and sustain classroom instruction and curriculum. Students were able to see who the presenters would be, and sign up in advance for classes in the areas they were most interested in learning about. Presenters came from Snow College and the surrounding area. They included: computer technology, culinary arts, drafting, diesel mechanics, building construction, nursing, auto mechanics, business education, cosmetology, commercial art, Channel 3 TV, Sanpete County Sheriff, GVHS Resource Officer, Gunnison E.M.T., and Therapy West. The student body officers greeted the presenters at the front door and escorted them to their rooms so they could get set up. All 326 students were invited to attend. The school went on the “assembly schedule” and the presenters held 4 half hour sessions from 9:50 to 12:00 Noon. The presenters were all well prepared in their subjects and did a lot of “hands-on” activities to keep the students attention and help foster better learning. Fred Christensen of Coke of Richfield donated water for the presenters so they could “keep on talking.” After the career fair lunch Thursday, November 6, 2008 Fifth graders act out the Civil War in their history play. boys in the Old West. The Andrew Sisters entertained the crowd with their star-filled performance. The play ended was served to the presenters and teachers so they could “network” and talk about the career fair and make suggestions for next year. The career fair is one activity of the Work-Based Learning program. Workbased learning provides a variety of career fields for students to explore their own interests and apply their self-discovery to the world of work. We are always asking students “what they want to be” and a career fair gives them a chance to explore real professions and help them determine their interest in one or more of them. They also make school seem more relevant because the presenters talk about the education they will need to do their jobs in the future. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this day a success. as it started, with a song by the entire 5th grade and one last kick from the mule. The play took a lot of Courtesy Photo/Suzanne Childs work and dedication from students and teachers, but the work paid off, making the show a fun success.
