However, we rarely get to mean it. Just the other day, as I said it, I realized I actually meant it. I said it to a senior girl at Gunnison Valley High School who plays on the varsity volleyball team. Candice Anderson is one of my heroes. Candice epitomizes everything we strive for as coaches. The Gunnison Bulldogs traveled to Coalville last Saturday to take on the North Summit Braves in a state 2A Quarterfinal game. The Bulldogs enjoyed a big breakfast put on by the booster club before they boarded the bus for the long drive. The Dogs came into the game with high hopes after defeating the South Sevier Rams in the first round of the playoffs last week. Although Gunnison came into the game with confidence and enthusiasm, they had a huge task ahead of them. The Braves came into the game with the best record in 2A at 8-1, their only loss coming at the hands of their rivals, South Summit. The Braves also had a large roster, dressing 55 players compared to the Bulldog's 34. The Braves also had 17 seniors with maturity and experience as opposed to Gunnison with 7. The Braves were also playing for a teammate, Justin Hale, who was killed in a tragic auto accident on October 1st. Each player wore a large #24 on his helmet in memory of Justin. The Bulldogs received the opening kick and Heston Neal returned it out to the 17 yard line. As the Bulldogs ran onto the field, many, including myself, were surprised to see Bradley Jackson returning as the ULLDOG FRIDE AWARD Justin Allred is the son of Jody and Brooke Allred.
