Show X 12 TITLE TOWN X TITLE RUN RECAP : GAME 5 - CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 2nd inning puts title out of Lone Peak's grasp John Jackson STAFF WRITER Spanish Fork is "Title Town*' once again! The talented Spanish Fork High School baseball team accomplished what many experts expected them to do, bring home the class 5A state title. The Dons used the winners' bracket to run through the tournament. The championship came on Friday afternoon at UVU's Brent Brown ballpark, which was packed with red and gray from all the hometown faithful that took the afternoon off to watch a group of great kids pile on the pitchers' mound in celebration. While the players celebrated, an emotional moment took place when some little leaguers walked out onto the field with a sign that read "Dev, we did it." Of course the sign was celebrating the legacy left by the late Dev Duke, who taught his boys, Brock and Adam, to love and play the game of baseball. Brock and Adam represented their father in a way that he surely would be proud of. Brock was named tournament MVP because of his home runs and outstanding pitching. Adam made the All-Tournament team because of his dominating pitching, which included a 95 mph fastball. Also making the All-Tournament team was leadoff man Trevor Randolph, who was a menace for the opposing teams once he reached base. In true Spanish Fork class, after the Dons were done celebrating on the field, they took the time lo tip their caps to the hometown fans that had come to witness them claim the title. The team then entered the stands to hug proud parents and celebrate with the student body. Emotions ran high as many parents realized that all the years together with their children, as well as all the friendships made on the numerous ball trips, had culminated with their boys claiming a state championship. This group of kids has played together for many years, which has bonded them, as well as their parents, for a lifetime. There was no better way to end it than with a champion- Namon Bills / Spanish Fork News DOWN AND DIRTY: Trevor Randolph churns up the dust as he slides safely into third in the game against Lone Peak. sacrifice by Taggart Lunceford.
