Hunt, Student Development Chair: Nicole Habel and Community Develop- Scholarships awarded Three area high school seniors are receiving a helping hand for college in the form of $1,000 scholarships from the Comcast Foundation. Riley Hanks of Salem Hills High School, Thomas Phillips of Spanish Fork High School and Morgan Bowen of American Leadership Academy, received the 2009 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship, which recognizes students who have demonstrated leadership skills, academic achievement and a commitment to community service. "We are excited to provide scholarships for these talented students," said Comcast-Utah Vice President Rodrigo Lopez. "Comcast seeks students who demonstrate leadership abilities, in school activities and who reflect a strong commitment to community service. These students are our future leaders, and we hope these scholarships will help to power their dreams for success." Third and fourth-grade winners are: Peyton Christensen, Grace Ethington, Kylee Hill, and Brylee Marziale took first place in the 4X100 meter relay; Brylee Marziale also took first place in the Softball throw (76'2"); Brandon Faux took 7th place in the 50 meter run; Austin Kubalek took 5th place in both the 50 meter and 100 meter runs; Bridger Pace took third place in the 200 meter run and first place for the standing long jump (5'9 3/4"); William Stanton took 6th place in the 100 meter run. Fifth-grade winners: Devin Argyle, Ashton Cluff, Tanner Stone, and Kenny Zedkeiah took third place in the 4X100 meter relay. Devin Argyle also placed third in the Softball throw (142'5") and Tanner Stone placed second in the 100 meter run. SIXTH GRADE WINNERS: the boys 4X100 meter relay team took first place and included Nicholas Roberts, Ryan Golish, Jared Nelson, and Caden Hermansen; The sixth-grade girls relay teams also did well placing first and second in the 4X100 meter relay. On the first place team was Danielle Perkins, Alexandra Loreen, Shelby Shepherd, and Sydni Mitchell; on the second place team was Artea Sanchez, Hadtey Gurney, Heidi Western, and Nateisha Ewin; Ryan Golish also took first place in the softball throw (216*); Kiera Hi art took second place in the 800 meter run; Jared Nelson took third place in 800 meter run; Danielle Perkins also took first place in both the 100 meter and 200 meter runs and also first place in the softball throw (161'); Nicholas Roberts also took first place in both the 100 meter and 200 meter runs and second place in the standing long jump (7' 5 3/4") Congratulations to all of these students and for all the students that participated! nies began, Mrs. Larson's orchestra was seated, playing the prelude music, and they continued playing "Pomp and Circumstance" throughout the processional of the graduates. Concert Choir opened the ceremonies with the "Star-Spangled Banner," followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and welcome, led by Justin Roberts, senior class president. Valedictorian Kathryn Dallon's speech was entitled, "How We Defined Our Past," coordinating with the senior theme. Dallon was followed by Salutatorian Sharisa Nay, giving her speech, "How We Will Define Our Future." Nay opened and closed her speech with quotes from Dr. Suess' "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" With a smile she said, "These four years of high school has been an incredible journey." Concert Choir sang "For • Good" from the popular musical "Wicked," with many students and graduates alike tearing up as they sang. Katie Sims was featured as the soloist with Jennifer Mills and Tasha Newman performing the duet portion of the song. Krista McEntire was the choir's accompanist for this piece. McKee and Boothe spoke following the choir. Shouts, whistles, claps, cowbells and air horns rang throughout the large arena as the class of 2009 graduates arose and received their diplomas and handshakes. After a special video presentation, the audience remained seated as Spanish Fork High's graduated class of 2009 marched together for the last time.
