Show SPANISH FORK Covering what matters most A6 • WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 2009 Lowe named region Venturing President Jennifer Lowe was formally inducted as the Western Region Venturing President during a ceremony Friday, May 22,2009 at the National Annual Meeting of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) in Orlando, Florida. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills and become good citizens. Venturing crews can specialize in a variety of avocation or hobby interests. Lowe was selected as the 2009-2010 Western Region Venturing President from a group of nine applicants from across the 13 western United States by a panel of past Western Region Venturing Presidents in April 2009. As the Western Re- gion Venturing President, Lowe now sits on a National Youth Leadership Cabinet with four other Venturing youth from across the nation and the National Order of the Arrow Youth Leadership (OA) core. Lowe replaces her predecessor, Matthew McGroarty, from Las Vegas, Nev. McGroarty was selected over two other eligible applicants at the National Annual Meetings to serve as the next National Venturing President for 2009-2010. Lowe is a member of Venturing Crew 1532 of the Utah National Parks Council. The Venturing Crew is chartered by the Spanish Fork-Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. For the last year, Lowe has served as the President of her crew as well as the President of the Palmyra District Venturing Officers Association (VOA), also of the Utah National Parks Council. As a result of her new leadership position, Lowe has already accepted invitations to attend and participate in Venturing activities in Washington State, Northern California and Dallas Texas, as well as with her home crew where she will spend a week at Flaming Gorge, participating in high adventure activities accompanied by a Kodiak Leadership Course. Lowe holds the Venturing Outdoor, Sports and Community and Religious Life Bronze Recognitions; the Venturing Gold and Silver Awards and is a recipient of the Council level Venturing Leadership Award (VLA). Over the next few months, Lowe plans to complete some final requirements for the Ranger and Trust Awards. Lowe is a 2009 graduate of Spanish Fork High School where, she received high academic honors and served as a co-captain of the girls cross country and track teams. Lowe is an All-State Academic athlete in both sports. As part of her senior year course curriculum, she attended Mountainland Applied Technology College (MATC), where she received training to be a Certified Medical Technician. Lowe has been accepted to attend Brigham Young University in the fall where she will continue to fulfill her love of reading and learning while seeking a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Lowe is the daughter of Gordon and Janice Lowe. Her older brother, Robert, is serving an LDS mission in the Dominican Republic. Robert is an Eagle Scout and recipient of the Venturing Ranger, Silver and Venturing Leadership Awards. Her younger brother, Ethan, is also an Eagle Scout and a new member of Crew 1532. Burglary suspects arrested Scouts at the News Early Saturday May 30 'the Spanish Fork Police Department, along with officers,fromthe Utah County Major Crimes Task Force and Provo Police Department, were able to recover-a Ford Mustang that had been reported stolen earlier in the day. Officers were also able to recover the stolen AK-47 with the loaded clip. It does not appear that the assault rifle had been fired. Other property from the burglary has been recovered as well and is in the custody of the Spanish Fork Police Department. 22-year-old Kip David Gneiting has been booked into the Utah County Jail on the charges of: residential burglary, theft of a firearm, theft of a vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person. At this point Mr. Gneiting has been cooperative with investigators. The Spanish Fork Police Department also arrested another individual for the burglary and theft of guns/vehicle in Spanish Fork. At 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 Matthew M. Parker was booked into the Utah County Jail f6r: residential burglary, theft of a firearm, and theft of a vehicle. Parker was arrested in Provo and has been cooperative with investigators. Officers were able to locate the vehicle as it was parked behind a Provo home. The vehicle was not occupied when it was located. 'The location of this burglary was specific, in that this was not a random home that was burglarized.
