Show WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 14, 2009 • 13 Covering what matters most Hayden Archibald Britni Smith Sara Bass Philip Thomas Chelsey Davis Curtis Holt SFHS names December students of the month Hayden Archibald Our Senior Student of the Month for December is Hayden Archibald. Hayden is the son of Curt and Merlene Archibald. He currently resides in Spanish Fork where he has lived his whole life. Hayden has three brothers and one sister. Hayden's favorite classes in school are Advanced Conditioning, Foods, and Business Web Page Design. He said, "Advanced Conditioning to stay in shape. Foods, because I get to eat good stuff. Business Web Page Design because' it is cool to be able to make your own websites." Hayden's other favorites include Italian food, Chris Ledeux, Blake Shelton, Def Leppard, The Scorpions, football, baseball and basketball. His favorite books are The Partner and Holes. Hayden says that one interesting thing about him is that he has never broken any bones. In his free time, Hayden loves to play sports and hunt. He is very competitive and loves to be outdoors and shoot animals. Hayden is involved in the Letterman's Club and also plays Football for Spanish Fork High School. When asked about his short and long term goals, Hayden said, "Short term goals are to become an Eagle Scout, go to College, and go on a mission. Long term goals are to get married, have a good career and a family." Mrs. Hicks, Hayden's Foods teacher said, "I can fully recommend Hayden as Student of the Month. He is always on time , always on task, always helpful. He exceeds expectations on assignments and helps classmates." Britni Smith Our Senior Student of the Month for December is Britni Smith. Britni is the daughter of Lori and Gordon Smith. She currently resides in Spanish Fork, but has lived in Lindon, Orem and Lehi. Britni has eight sisters and two brothers. Britni *s favorite classes in school are the Distance Ed classes. She says that they are interesting because they are challenging and the subjects are very diverse, Britni's other favorites include Rascal Flatts, cheer, volleyball, ballroom dancing, Oreo ice-cream, fruit and the books The Pretties Trilogy. Britni said that one unique thing about her is that she wants to become a post-secondary teacher because she loves education, students and being in front of people. In her free time, Britni loves to dance. She also loves to clean. Britni said, "Mostly I just love being productive with my time.. During the summer I love to go boating! Also, I've played the violin since sixth grade — it's one of my fa- vorite past times." She is involved in many extracurricular activities including NHS, the French club and Seminary Council. She used to be a member of the cheerleading squad, but gave that up to focus on school. When asked about her short and long term goals, Britni said, "Complete my Associates degree by the time I graduate. Short term, I'm memorizing the Living Christ in French — hopefully by my birthday which is the fourth of January." Madame Crane, Britni's French teacher, said, "Britni is a lovely young lady. She has a beautiful smile that reflects the beauty she has inside. She is bright and ambitious. Britni is focused on making the right choices concerning her future and works hard to meet her goals. In this world where so many people cut corners and make excuses for their lack of integrity, Britni is a rare gem. She gives her best to everything she does. She is conscientious and honest. She is an excellent student who serves as an outstanding model of integrity and achievement for those around her. In the two-anda-half years she has been in my French classes, Britni has had such a positive impact on me and always encourages me to be the best I can be." Philip is always willing to work with others and strives to help those around him master the material. His positive attitude is contagious and guarantees a good day in the classroom. His attitude and actions in the room remind us all of the importance of learning, and that it also needs to be fun. Congratulations to a very deserving student!" Sara said, "Short term is to get through this term and graduate from high school. Long term is to go to college and get a career and eventually tour Europe and learn another language." When asked to discuss how she feels about education, Sara said, "I think education is definitely a great thing. It helps me to continue learning (especially through reading), become more mature, gain friends, and become more grateful for all the things I have." Mr. Porter, Sara's Spanish teacher said, "I am glad that Sara has been nominated as student of the month. She has truly been a pleasure to get to know and teach this year. Sara's personality makes her a delight to have in class. My observation is that Sara seems to enjoy life and has been able to find a good balance between having a good time and getting her work done. She is the type of person who represents Spanish Fork High well because she is intelligent, respectful, kind, and a hard worker." Sara Bass Our Junior Student of the Month for December is Sara Bass. Sara is the daughter of Dwayne and Anna-Marie Bass. She currently resides in Spanish Fork, but has also lived in Provo. She has one brother and one sister. Sara's favorite classes in school are English and History because she loves reading and enjoys learning about the past. About her other favorites, Sara said, "My favorite food is Chinese or Italian. My favorite bands are Boys Like Girls and Lifehouse. My favorite sport to play is soccer. When asked about his short and long term goals, Curtis said, "Right now I want to continue getting good grades. Later in life I want to play school basketball or soccer and play in college. I will go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Then I'd want a family and still live in Utah or move back to Texas." When asked to discuss how he feels about education, Curtis said, "I think education is really important especially in high school because these are the years we prepare the rest of our lives. Being in public education I think we get a good overall experience with some of the people we socialize with and interact with everyday." Mrs. Johnson said, "Curtis Holt is definitely a student worth highlighting, Each day, he comes in rny classroom wiling and ready to work at whatever task is given. He participates willingly in class, and always turns in his work on time. As a person, Curtis is always holding himself high and has a great attitude and zest for life that is sometimes hard to find in teenagers. His work ethic and fun-loving attitude toward whatever he does is certainly admirable." Chelsey Davis ; Our Sophomore Student: of the Month for December! is Chelsey Davis. Chelsey! is the daughter of Mike! and Cheryl Davis. She cur-1 rently resides in Spanish Fork where she has livedher whole life. She has two' sisters and one brother. \ Chelsey's favorite classin school is Interior De-i sign because "you wouldn't! think it's hard, but there arej so many things you need; to know." Chelsey's other? favorites include pizza, all? types of music, dancing,* and reading. Chelsey saysi that one unique thing about' her is that she has gutted an • elk before. In her free time, Chelsey says, "I love to dance because I can release what I am feeling through my dancing and inspire people." Chelsey is involved in Dance Company at Spanish Fork High School. When asked about her short and long term goals, Chelsey said, "I'm not sure about my short term goals, but long term, I would like to be able to go to college, and maybe even receive a scholarship." When asked to discuss how she feels about education, Chelsey said, "I think that education is really important. Even though at times it might seem dumb and point-less, it is all worth it in the long run." Chelsey's teacher said, "Chelsey is such a won-, derful person to have in; class! She is so good about participating and learning the material. She is such a; friendly and kind person to anybody in class and is: willing to help out anybody. Anybody could take a lesson from Chelsey on how. to do well in school and life, and to enjoy it and make, friends at the same time. : What a gem!" She maintains a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the drill team and women's chorus. Her favorite classes include seminary and social dance. Outside of school she enjoys doing "just about anything" as long as it's fun. On a road trip, Mikel would go "somewhere warm," and would listen to country. Sponsored by: 290 H.
