Show vcho WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2008 • B5 Covering what matters most District-wide collaboration Lana Hiskey NEBO DISTRICT Nebo District has implemented district-wide collaboration time after months of discussion about ways to have continued excellence in our district's schools. Nearly 100 patrons participated in these discussions and emphasized the need to provide collaboration time specifically set aside for teachers to focus on improved student learning and quality instruction. Nebo's district-wide collaboration time will be held each Wednesday by dismissing all students 45 minutes early from school. For the past three years, several of our secondary schools have piloted a program where they provided collaboration time by haying a "late start" for students on Wednesday mornings. Teachers in our elementary schools also collaborated during varied times at each individual school. It is in the best interest of students, families, and teachers to have a consistent collaboration time throughout the district. The district-wide collaboration time is for teachers to meet with other teachers in a department or grade level to discuss assessments, core curriculum standards, student learning, needs for re-teachihg and enriching the curriculum. Rick Nielsen, assistant superintendent, said, "We know that giving teachers time to collaborate together about quality instructional practices, with a focus on individual students, is one of the most important factors affecting high student achievement. Common collaboration time throughout the district will better help us in our goal to meet the academic needs of every child in every school." Nebo District appreciates the community support and the opportunity to work with the children in all our the communities.
