Garfield County LEPC (Local Emergency Preparedness Committee) and the Citizen Corps Council would like to remind Garfield County citizens that it is a good time to open your copy of the FEMA "Are You Ready" book and make sure your plans for sheltering at home, evacuation plans, 72 hours kits, water supply and other family emergency supplies are up to date and ready to use. If there are still a few who do not have "Are You Ready" books they can be found at the County Library, your local. Church, or the Hospital Thrift Store. We still have a few copies stored and we hear they are going to be hard to get in the near future, so if you can't find one call Bob Harman at 679-8691. One thing we sometimes don't think of is our pets and livestock. If you have to abandon your home or farm for several days what would your animals do? Do you have a plan for extra feed, water supply etc.? There are plans and suggestions in the book and out agriculture agencies for disaster planning for animals. Found at www.ready.gov/america/getkitypets.html The Be Ready Utah campaign is in full swing and has helped with education programs throughout the State. We are having a new CERT class begin in Hatch September 6. There are a few openings for interested persons who would like to be trained in disaster first aid, home fire suppression, light search and rescue and other important subjects for family and neighborhood emergency preparedness. This is a 18 hour course and has a minimal fee of $10, Sponsored by the Garfield County Citizen Corps Council. If interested contact Bob Harman 679-8691 or Sandrea Francisco at 679-8669.
