Show AUGUST 10,2006 Page 8 THE GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER MILLER SPORTS PARK EVENT MAKES PIT STOP IN ESCALANTE Over 30 very colorful high performance vehicles stopped in Escalante on Thursday August 1st at the City park. Local residents and tourists enjoyed viewing cars worth from $100,000 to $1,000,000 ( a Mercedes!) Some of the kids even got to sit in or go for a ride in some of the most expensive and fastest cars in the world!!! The Miller Sports Park was represented by several family members. All this to honor Utah's Fallen Officers. Troy Tait of Med One Capitol in the Salt Lake City area introduced local police officer, Jared Dunton and Deputy Sheriff, Cliff Pierson, and Escalante Mayor Donnie Porter and presented them with Utah Fast Pass memorabilia. Darlene Evans from Panguitch and widow of Fallen Officer, Ray Lynn Pierson was introduced and she spoke about how important this support is to women left with small children to raise in such severe circumstances. Then her son, Sheriff Cliff Pierson, also thanked everyone for not forgetting the fallen heroes. Troy Tait handed Mayor Donnie Porter a Presentation check for a Memorial for Fallen Officer, Dave Jones. At first the check was made out for $500, but that was soon changed to $1000 and before the day was out it was up to $1500 with a later donation of $50. Escalante Mayor, Donnie Porter, will be appointing a committee to design the memorial. Please contact him with your suggestions and donations.
