Bush visited Utah for his second time in his presidency on August 22 to address the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Anderson spoke to the VFW convention and at an anti-war rally. Anderson was booed in his speech to the VFW, but left to cheers of "Rocky! Rocky!" after the anti-war rally. Joey Mayes, an English Major was pleased with Anderson's actions. "I did shake Rocky Anderson's hand and I think he's pretty much the greatest mayor in America right now, He's the only one with the sense to protest the war in Iraq." Mayes was attending the protest for many reasons, but an integral part was in honor of his friend and local activist Blake Donner who had passed away a few days earlier.
