Show DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE Tuesday, January 18, 2011 RUGBY continued from Page 7 anticipated face-off between No. i Cal and No. 6 Utah. An early penalty kick gave Cal a 3-o advantage in the sixth minute, and the Utes slowly fell to Cal's offensive power. Although Utah's backs showed off their own dangerous speed throughout the game, those glimpses were quickly shut down by the Cal defense. In the eighth minute, Cal scored its first try and conversion for a 8-o lead. By the start of the second half, Utah was down 15-0. Despite Utah's physicality against the Bears, the Utes fell by a final score of 35o. "We learned some tough lessons," said head coach Blake Burdette. "We were inside 5 meters five different times and couldn't capitalize. I was happy with our tackling, counter-rucking and support, but we'll watch the film and see what we need to do." Utah regrouped in time for Sunday's slaughter of Oregon. 9 Freshman scrumhalf Nata Louti capitalized on a hole in the Oregon defense to give Utah a 5-o lead in the second minute. After Louti's try, the Utes never looked back, as outside center Houma forced a try into the left corner, and wing AJ Tuineau easily outran Oregon for a try in the center just minutes later. Alex Muehle recovered the ball from Oregon for a try in the waning seconds of the first half to give Utah a 22-0 lead. The second half was once again all Utah, as flanker Mike Kimball forced his way through four Ducks before a short pass to prop Michael Shepherd for the first try of the half, 3o seconds in. Miller converted for a 29-0 lead. Three more tries and a conversion in the final io minutes resulted in an ending score of 6o-o. "We knew we had to look forward after Cal," Burdette said. "I think how we dealt with Oregon showed how we came together as a team." k.price@ chronicle.utah.edu 1111111111111111111111 74e, v\ it NA€4 Saccd ate POWERBALL KARAOKE Arrive early for your chance at cash drawings just for singing! 7t1 ed,ftedday, - Satcorday, DUELING PIANOS 6.S.Ceada* KARAOKE Utah vs. New Mexi BRING THIS AD IN FOR FREE COVER Wednesday, Jan. 19 • 6:00 ANY NIGHT 201 E 300 S UTAHUTES.COM 801-519-8900 www.tavernacle.com CLASSIFIEDS For Rent •GROUP LEADERS• Help Wanted Mac Systems Specialist/LAN Support, Univ of Utah Job # 42249 Excellent opportunity for student (undergrad or graduate) with a strong Mac OS computer support background to work on campus in a 30 hour/week benefited position with flexible work hours.
