Letters to the Editor County Attorney Changes Deed, Why Not For Park Too? Governor Leavitt’s article printed in the Standard-Examiner on September 4, concerning the need to acquire new trails and protect existing ones, prompts me to write. We have one of the most convenient and scenic trails in the state right here in Weber County. Take time to use it this fall and consider these facts: Our attorney suggested we condense three plat maps into one, which would then show the 2.5 mile trail together with maps that show Rulon Jones as owner. This trail leads to the 160 acre, once public park, in Wolf Creek, which the county sold to Jones. This map would be helpful in our current court fight to have the land and trail returned to the public. County office personnel were helpful. For $50 they provided a 12” x 17” map showing the trail and park. Surprisingly, there was no name designating trail ownership. We asked County Recorder Doug Crofts why Rulon’s name had purposely been omitted. He replied he had been instructed by County Attorney Dave Wilson to leave Rulon’s name off because “Rulon does not own the trail.” If Rulon’s name can so easily be taken off a county deed and record indicating ownership of the trail, why hasn’t his name also been taken off the 160 acre scenic park? By doing so, issue of an illegal sale would quickly Before canceling Route 617, UTA should reconsider its decision and consider a few key points: Buses, such as those found on 617, are feeder buses to express busses to Salt Lake City and Brigham, as well as WSU and shopping areas. The cost is subsidized by the express buses. The Huntsville bus should go far ther north to Liberty instead of just to Eden. The bus should also go to Wolf Creed Lodge—or at least to the golf course. Anderson Cove Campground should have a bust stop sign posted for use of the neighborhood, and Hank Clough Huntsville, Utah Inspirational Thought Time is the precious ingredient. Everyday brings 86,400 seconds. Whatever isn’t used is lost forever. -Author Unknown YOUR BEST SKI BARGAIN ORDER EARLY Purchased by Purchased by Purchased by AFTER FOR BEST PRICES 9-30-01 10-31-01 11-30-01 12-1-01 Booklets of 10 Passes Day Tickets $140.00 Night Tickets $120.00 $160.00 $130.00 $175.00 $140.00 $190.00 $145.00 Season Passes $300.00 $350.00 $425.00 $450.00 FOR INFORMATION OR PHONE ORDERS The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS’ liability on account of errors in, or omissions of,advertising shall in no event exceed the amount of charges for the advertising omitted or the space occupied by the error. Bus advertising could show that persons without cars desiring to campout can ride the bus to Anderson cove and fishing spots in the area. Bus schedules with the various stops in Ogden Canyon and Ogden Valley could be advertised in the OGDEN VALLEY NEWS. The benefits and savings obtained by riding the bus instead of driving could be better advertised in the area. More Valley residents riding the bus can make a difference in lower traffic levels in Ogden Canyon. The bus could be scheduled to run later than 5:00 p.m. for people who work later in the day. UTA could do a survey through the OGDEN VALLEY NEWS to find out what the needs of residents are in order to improve bus ridership in the area. These suggested improvements should increase ridership of the UTA bus in Ogden Valley. Something is very wrong when Weber County officials keep paying thousands of tax dollars to a Salt Lake law firm to continue this issue. Commissioners can support the Governor’s plan, admit it was a mistake to sell this prime land, and return it to public use by removing Rulon’s name from the deed, or they can be embarrassed by having the Utah State Supreme Court do it for them. |
