Branch Library By Jared Clonts least second in the state qualifiers. Humorous Interpretation is the same as Weber High Student Reporter Cathy Cartwright calls herself a self-taught artist and jewelry designer. She lives in Utah with her children Emma and Samuel. Cathy’s academic training and subsequent training career path led her from her passion of color and design to work in fiber and glass ware, she states, “I found the perfect way to fulfill my longing to create beautiful and elegant adornments and home accessories.” Cathy writes, “I produce two jewelry collections, dichroic glass and vintage and contemporary button jewelry. Both collections include pendants, bracelets, and earrings. The dichroic pieces are kiln formed and combined with silver to create vibrant, exciting accessories. My vintage and contemporary button jewelry features buttons from the 1820s to the present, and are made from a variety of materials, including glass, crystal, horn, metal, and contemporary Czech glass.” “My fused art glass collection includes tableware, from sushi and snack plates to large platters and bowls. Taking kiln forming one step further, I have combined glass sculptural pieces: miniature chairs, love seats, and dolls.” Cathy currently teaches kiln formed glass, beading and precious metal clay at Bertha Eccles Community Art Center and the University of Utah Division of Continuing Education. Ms. Cartwright’s work will be on exhibit at the Ogden Valley Library from May 1 through June 30. Weber has not sent any debater to the National Tournament in ten years. This year two outstanding members, Sarah Gawronski of Huntsville, a junior, and Brett Bartruff, a junior, both qualified for this event. The National Tournament is run by the NFL, the National Forensics League, a non-profit organization that directs the debate programs at high schools and colleges. Some famous people who have been members of the NFL are Lyndon B. Johnson, Ted Turner, Oprah Winfrey, and Tom Brokaw. The organization of the National Forensics League is very easy; first districts compete against each other, then the winners go to state, then the state winners go to nationals. This year nationals will be held in Portland, Oregon, June 11 – June 17, which happens to be during Brett Bartruff’s 18 birthday on June 14. The winning students at nationals will be featured in the NFL magazine, Rostrum, and will be able to qualify for scholarships from various universities.
