He and his mother Christena traveled there for one week to deliver first aid kits and art and school supplies to an orphanage and two schools—Unidad Ines Maria and Francisco Jordan—which were both impacted by hurricane damage. Parker also helped paint the schools’ walls. Parker raised money, along with his extended family and friends, via social media, to help purchase supplies. Others donated supplies or monies also. The Hincy’s carried some of these supplies over, and purchased others there to help build Puerto Rico’s economy. Donors included Annette Slade and Beverly Davis; and the Good, Wiscombe, Nilson, and Amann families, and other anonymous donors and family members. Parker is the son of Tyler and Christena Hincy of Eden, and is a member of Troop 569. On Tuesday, May 14, Valley Elementary sixth-graders went on the annual hike with Marion Horna to pull dyer’s woad, clean up litter, and trim back overgrowth along the Pineview pathway. Community Foundation of Ogden Valley (CFOV) board members, Mr. Horna also being a board member, came along to help. CFOV Board member Jim Morgan stated, “The students were great and very enthusiastic. I think being out of the classroom on such a beautiful day helped. Hikers and bikers we met on the trail were very appreciative of the students’ efforts. Ice Pop’s and water were handed out at the end. Big thanks to principal England, teachers, parents, and all the sixth-graders who participated.” CFOV chair Brian Nielsen added, “The future of Ogden Valley is in good hands with Valley Elementary sixth-graders. Their excitement and vigor in picking up trash and pulling dyer’s woad was great. They were willing to speak to older adults and anxious to ask questions and get involved.” |
