Wolf Creek Canyon trail, which leads up Change of schedule this year . . . we will be th Community Youth Invited to Enter Annual Patriotic Essay Contest for 4th of July Celebration This year’s theme for the 4th of July Fourth Annual Patriotic Essay Contests hosted by Huntsville Town is “How Can I Serve My Community to Make it a Better Place to Live.” Those from the Ogden Valley community, including Ogden Canyon, ages 8 to 18, are invited to enter. There will be two age groups—8- to 12-year olds, and 13- to 18-year olds. There will be a first-place prize of $75, a second-place prize of $50, and a third-place prize of $25 for each age group Guidelines Essay entries must meet the following guidelines: • Length should be 1 to 2 pages, double spaced. • Font size should be 14 and easy to read. • Must be written in the youth’s own words. • Essays will be judged on how well it relates to the theme, and on organization, grammar, and convention. • Please include name, age, and phone number with your entry. • Entries are due June 25, 2016. Weber Pathways TrailFest 2018 Presented by BankGet ofactive, Utah, Set for June 30 dis- are wider and paved. Participants can get their cover, and play along Weber County’s expansive network of urban trails during Weber Pathways’ second annual Trailfest 2018 presented by Bank of Utah. The free celebration of the county’s trail network takes place Saturday, June 30, 2018 beginning with a wide variety of organized trail activities from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The public can also enjoy a Trailfest Festival and Expo at the Ogden Amphitheater from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. “In 2017, more than 1,000 community members hiked, biked, or ran a section of the newly-completed Centennial Trail, and more than 500 people enjoyed the community party after,” said Mark Bernigni, executive director of Weber Pathways. “We hope to double participation this year, now that the event is more widely known. No matter your age or ability, we have many opportunities for everyone to get out and enjoy the beautiful trail system.” Families can enjoy the organized activities along the Centennial Trail that include a muddy trail demonstration, trail etiquette, free tubing on the Ogden River, science learning projects, digging for “fossils” and making a plaster cast near Eccles Dinosaur Park, and more. Some of the trails are narrow dirt paths and others TrailFest Passports stamped at the hosted trail segments and then bring their passports to the TrailFest Expo and Festival for a chance to win great prizes. The Festival and Expo will feature community organization booths, great food and beverages, and healthy family-oriented activities such as trampolines. Also available to festivalgoers is the Farmers Market that is going on in the vicinity that morning. “We’re proud to be the presenting sponsor of TrailFest again this year,” said Roger Christensen, senior vice president of marketing and communications for Bank of Utah. “We encourage individuals and families to take advantage of this wonderful, free event that Weber Pathways has created.” The Centennial Trail is officially designated as the loop formed by the Bonneville Shoreline, Ogden River Parkway, and Weber River Parkway trails. This beautiful trail is unique to the community, spanning 27 miles while passing through the Weber County communities of Ogden, South Ogden, Uintah, Riverdale, West Haven, and Marriott-Slaterville. Popular with families, recreationalists, and commuters alike, the Centennial Trail has something for everyone, making it the ideal venue for celebrating the community’s unparalleled access to trails. This is a lovely trail with more than 25 species of wildflower—one of the places where we remember and respect the work of our pioneers, and of Dr. Cobabe, who originally cut the trail to bring down his earth-moving equipment when he built Powder Mountain ski resort. clearing woad and other noxious weeds from this trail as an evening effort on Wednesday, June 20 at 5:00 p.m. Please meet at the trailhead on Powder Mountain Road, and come and help us maintain this beautiful trail. It is a truly worthwhile place to protect, no matter how much woad is in the Valley. Please bring shovels, cutters, water, and sunscreen. Bags will be provided, if needed. Grammy Award winning singer/songwriters Monty Powell and Anna Wilson have created a “spectacular” singer/songwriting festival with Emmy Lou Harris, Rodney Crowell, and Shawn Colvin leading the lineup. Symphony Ballet Association (OSBA) as they present the Utah Symphony twice this summer. The first performance is slated for Friday, June 29 with a patriotic evening of symphony music under the stars! Conductor John Morris Russell will lead the orchestra in a patriotic celebration featuring Broadway, country music, and X-Factor star Rachel Potter performing all your red, white, and blue favorites. The second show is Tuesday, August 7 highlighting the iconic songs of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald performed by Jenkins, vocalist; and Tony DeSare, vocalist and pianist. The Utah Symphony will perform in front of the beautiful backdrop of the Ogden Valley and Earl’s Lodge. Earl’s Lodge will have food and drinks available starting at 5:30 p.m. A special symphony menu will be available for purchase. The venue will open at 6:30 p.m. Arrive early for best seating options. The performance length will be approximately two hours with a 20-minute intermission. A special activity for children will take Riverton Music’s Musical Petting Zoo will be on site encouraging children to touch, play, and explore many different musical instruments starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the Utah Symphony at Snowbasin Resort are $25 for general admission lawn seating, $5 for children 12 years old and under, and $50 for VIP seating.
