Letters to the Editor Please Join Me in Voting for Ryan Arbon for Weber County Sheriff I am Troy Arrowsmith and I ran for Weber County Sheriff, but lost at the Republican Convention. I would like to thank all for a positive experience. You now have three choices this year for the position for Sheriff in Weber County in the upcoming Primary election. I would like you to take into account a couple of things when deciding who you will vote for. I have 26 years of Military experience and 21 years of Law Enforcement experience. The Sheriff’s office has had numerous issues over the past few years and it needs to be fixed. You also need to have someone with the ability and courage to fix the problem. In the military, when a unit is having problems with morale, discipline, and/or a total breakdown of the command structure, there is only one thing to do—relieve the command team. The military will relieve the entire command team and bring in a new command team to fix the problem. This allows the command team to come in fresh to look at the problem, and to keep the “good old boy” system out of the decision-making process. Keep in mind that, like I said, you need someone with the ability and courage to make the changes necessary. During the time I was running for Weber County Sheriff, I was able to get to know one such individual. That individual is Ryan Arbon. He has conviction, foresight, ability, and the courage to do what is needed. I am supporting Ryan Arbon for Weber County Sheriff and would like you to join me in this endeavor. I would like to thank all of you for your dedication. Respectfully, Troy Arrowsmith, Ogden The Incredible Shrinking Democratic Party The plot of a 1957 movie was that a man discovered he was shrinking because of some mysterious atomic force. We have a similar event happening today in American politics. The Democratic Party is shrinking not so much in the number of registered voters as in those who can believe in what their national leaders are advocating. This is not your grandpa’s political party, not the one that believed in American values and patriotism and fair play even in politics. Today’s “Democrats” are more concerned with mocking our President, voting against lower taxes, advocating for illegal aliens (even the criminal type) and giving away our resources and manufacturing skills, and spreading a doctrine that America is just too powerful for our own good. The Party is desperately in need of new leadership, the same old sad faces of Pelosi and Schumer keep on frowning at every new victory of the Trump Administration and dragging their feet at every opportunity. Unbeknownst to many Democrats, there is a “Paradigm Shift” occurring in America’s trust. We are becoming more skeptical of the mainstream media and of the past administration’s actions because of the corruption discovered in both. Even though the number of registered Democrats hasn’t decreased much, the DNC is still in business and Democrats are obsessed with reversing the 2016 election results and with negating all of Trump’s initiatives. And the public is becoming leery of talk show bashing and the extreme bias of many news sources; thus, tuning out the negative rhetoric. They are focusing more on what is being accomplished by a President who can best be described as the “Energy Bunny” and an administration that is putting America First. Instead of a President who spreads charismatic platitudes and made morning talk show hosts giddy, we have a man who is a realist and a pragmatist who will tackle anything that needs fixing—including the environment, the military, borders, jobs, taxes, immigration, and nuclear threats. Dems and the media can deny until the cows come home but the American people are smart and recognize progress when they see it. John W. Reynolds, Pleasant View |
