Wolf Creek Utah Announces New Golf Head Professional Wolf Creek Utah, a private masterplanned recreational ski and golf resort community, recently announced that Ryan Taylor will assume the duties of head golf professional in addition to his current position as tournament director at Wolf Creek Utah. Taylor, a Utah native, is currently a PGA Level II Apprentice, and will obtain Class “A” PGA status in October 2008. Taylor turned “Pro” in 2002 and has been a member of the Wolf Creek Utah golf staff for over six years. “Ryan is a great asset to our team here at Wolf Creek Utah, we are fortunate to have such a talented, responsible and dedicated Professional leading our golf and tournament operations,” said General Manager of Wolf Creek Utah, Bill Cox. The Golf Course at Wolf Creek Utah opened in 1963. The 18-hole, par 72, 7,018-yard golf course mesmerizes and challenges players from start to finish. Designed by Mark Baliff, the Wolf Creek Utah golf course boasts beautiful scenery of the surrounding mountains, as well as, water elements coming into play on at least four of its holes. The golf course also offers private practice facilities, golf shop, dining room and lounge, as well as a recreational center. An additional 18 holes are currently being designed by Golf Hall of “Famer” Larry Nelson. Future plans call for a renovation of the current clubhouse; including a pool and pool house, and a brand new members-only golf clubhouse. In addition, the Audubon International recently designated the golf course at Wolf Creek Utah as the first course in Utah to become a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The group lauded Wolf Creek for enhancing wildlife habitat, protecting water quality and conserving resources. It is one of 647 sanctuary courses in the world. Charles Harral Joins Weber State Men’s Hoop Staff Charles Harral, an assistant coach at South Plains Junior College in Levelland, Texas, has been named as the new assistant coach on the Weber State University men’s basketball staff. Harral replaces Jeff Linder who left this past spring to join the men’s basketball staff at the University of San Francisco. Harral brings some solid coaching credentials to the Wildcat hoop staff. He spent the past two seasons at South Plains under Coach Steve Green. The Texans posted a 30-5 record in 2007-08 and defeated Salt Lake Community College in the championship game of the NJCAA tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. “We are very excited to have Charles join our staff; he’s exactly the type of coach we were looking for,” said Coach Rahe. He continued, “Charles is a well rounded individual. He can coach, recruit, scout, and is especially strong in the area of guiding players in their academic endeavors. Above all those qualities, as a person he’s fair, honest, and has a tremendous work ethic. He’s driven to succeed and he’s been extremely successful where ever he’s been.” A native of San Antonio, Texas, Harral graduated from Churchill High School in 1999 and enrolled at Texas Tech University. As an undergraduate, Harral served as the student manager for the Red Raider’s men’s basketball team for two seasons under Coach James Dickey and two seasons under Coach Bob Knight. He graduated in May of 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science. From 2003 through 2005 he served as a graduate assistant coach at the University Texas-El Paso under Coach Billy Gillespie and Coach Doc Sadler while working on a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. He obtained that degree in August of 2005. He left El Paso and was hired as an assistant coach at Arkansas-Fort Smith in 2005-06. Fort Smith was in its last season as a junior college before moving up to the four-year level. That team posted a 33-3 record overall and won the NJCAA national championship game in Hutchinson, Kansas. He then left to coach at South Plains and on to Weber State. Off Highway Vehicle Use on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest U i n t a - Wa s a t c h Cache National Forest managers are encouraging visitors who ride off-highway vehicles (all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, and snowmobiles) on National Forest System Lands to be aware of resource damage that can occur when recreating. OHVs may only be used on roads, trails, and areas that are designated open to OHV use. Use that results in resource damage is illegal with fines up to $5,000. The individual responsible for the damage can also be held liable for the cost of repairs to the resources. Riders may obtain travel maps from each Forest Service Office on the Uinta-WasatchCache National Forest. Remember, it is the responsibility of the rider to know which roads, trails, and areas are open. No one under the age of 8 years old may operate an OHV. Anyone from 8 through 15 years of age must have an Education Certificate issued by Utah State Parks and Recreation. To obtain an Education Certificate, users must attend courses offered by Utah State Parks and Recreation. Certificates can be issued for all terrain vehicles (ATVs) and motorcycles between March and October, and snowmobile courses from October to March. All operators under the age of 18 are required to wear a helmet when riding on an OHV, and all OHVs must have a current registration. For more information about these courses, call the Utah State Parks and Recreation at (801) 538-7220 or visit their website at <www.stateparks.utah.gov> Responsible use of off-highway vehicles is the key to the future of motorized recreation on public land. Riding on public land is a privilege. Remember to share trails with all other users. Listed below are a few courtesy tips for OHV users. • Don’t harass wildlife that you may encounter on your ride, slow down, and stay a good distance from the animals. • Always stay on designated roads, trails, and areas. • When you encounter other users on the trail, pull over and turn-off the engine and let them get out of sight before restarting the engine. • Follow others at a safe distance and be courteous while passing. • Obey posted signs, respect closed areas. • Don’t ride across meadows and stream banks. • Always tread lightly on the land. For more information about the Tread Lightly program call 800-966-9900.
