June 8. 2001 Vol. 70 No. 23 Jazz Bear Leads MDA Regional News Notes Motorcycle Ride To Wendover Public BY PAMELA ROBBINS Bcc KUili With a beautiful day shining down and lots 6,000 of loud engines purring-approximate- ly motorcycle riders took otT from Salt Lake and headed to Wendover to celebrate the 50th year of the ride" for Muscular Dystrophy. Bikers met at the Harley Davidson of Salt Lake store on 2928 South State Street before making the ride to the Silver SmithStatcline Casinos this past weekend. The JAZZ Bear made an appearance at about 9:30 a.m., riding south down State Street past the Harley Davidson store and past all the bikes lined up along the sides of State Street. He then returned back to the store and parked his bike in the middle of the road where he took time to greet bikers, spectators and children suffering from MD. At 10 a.m. the JAZZ bear popped a confetti bomb in front of the Store with the words start your engines. He then led the parade of bikes to Wendover. Watching the parade of bikes a block north of the store, a spectator said it took 20 minutes for all the machines to leave the staging area. With donations of S20 or more coining from the participants, the ride generated $150,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation. Several biker clubs participated in the annual event including B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse) and the Blue Knights (Law Enforcement Bike Organization). Harley Davidson of Salt Lake City. Rock 99 and the MDA organized this very worthwhile project. (Ed. The BY PAMELA ROBBINS Bee Editor state medical examiner's .A heart wrenching case is about to reach closure with a no contest plea given by Paul Blaine Wayment in Third District Court before Judge Hilder on Tuesday, June 5. The plea was the latest installment in court hearings brought about after the body of Wayment's son. Gage age 2, was found in the mountains above Chalk Creek on November 1. 2000. . Wayment had been charged with negligent homicide in the death due to leaving his son unattended in a vehicle for an unspecified amount of time on October 26. 2000. as he went to pursue a deer while hunting. Upon his return to the vehicle Wayment discovered his son missing and a massive search of the area was Dusty Ercanbrack Summit County Rodeo Queen For 2001 initiated by the Sheriff's Office. Summit County Library System Childrens Program The Summit County Library System invites children ages 3 to 2 to join in the fun and adventure at The Summer Reading Programs to he held at the Coalville and Kamas branches this summer. The theme for this years program is Reading Road Trip U.S.A. Children will 1 embark on travel adventures through reading supervised by the enthusiastic library staff and community volunteers. Children from the Kamas area will be meeting Thursdays June 7, 14 and 21 at 10 a.m. at the Kamas Library. 1 10 N. Main. A special closing activity featuring the Starry Eyed Puppet will be held June 28 at 10 a.m. at Kamas City building. The Kamas area children are also encouraged to participate in the summer reading incentive program designed to encourage children to continue reading through the summer months. Pels The Big Fix on Tour, which has spayed or neutered over 2.000 cats and dogs in Utah, will visit Henefer. The mobile spayneuler clinic is a surgical unit on wheels, traveling the state as part of No More Homeless Pets in Utah, a campaign to end the killing of healthy shelter animals by the year 2005. The clinic schedule follows Tuesday June 12 at the Henefer Fire Station. June 13 at the Wanship Animal Shelter and June 14 at the Oakley Fire Station. The clinic is operated on a first come, first served basis with limited space available. Arriving early is the best way to get a space on the clinic. Animal intake is a 8 a.m. Pets are discharged in the afternoon no later than five p.m. Pet owners must bring their animals in a carrier labeled with identification. Animals must not eat after 9 p.m. the night before or the morning of surgery. They may have water. The commencement program was presented by South Summit's honor students and the venire class officers. As the program proceeded one is reminded yet again that those who a wind the present will soon have to turn that control over to the youth.
