Show 2B The Summit County Bee Coalville, UT 84017 Friday, June 19, 1987 Animal Shelter News On the Road Again Summer time, family time: will this include traveling with your family pet? Traveling by car with your pet could be a nightmare or a wonderful voyage. In the next series of articles, I will cover what to consider before you decide to take a pet traveling, hints on how to prepare him, what to bring for him, what special needs will you need to provide for, how to plan your and pointers on how to avoid problems. When planning to take your pet on a trip consider first your pet's welfare. Ask yourself why you are taking your pet along. For many pets, especially cats, any sudden change such as travel can be quite upsetting. Is traveling together really a wise decision for you and your pet? Carefully weigh your reasons for wanting your pet to accompany you and the wisdom and humaneness of doing so. Perhaps you both would be better off if your pet was boarded at a kennel or left at home with a responsible housesitter or a twice-dail- y visitor. If you decide to take hjm , be prepared and prepare your pet. A trip should be a pleasurt1 for both of you. by Vi Blake Dear Vi: We wanted a sandbox for our children, but my husband could never find time to make one. Finally, we bought an inexpensive plastic molded play pool and filled it with sand about 300 pounds. The total cost was under $12. Later, I converted an old plastic shower curtain into a cover to keep the rain and debris out and the sand in. This was simply done by rounding the ends to form a large circle, and enclosing clastic in a casing stitched around. Dear Vi: I buy mozzarella cheese in blocks (much cheaper) and freeze it in smaller blocks, each individually wrapped. When I need some, I take out as many pieces as will be needed. My husband came up with a good idea. He nailed a large piece of plastic packing foam on the wall behind his work bench. When working on a project, he sticks nails, screws, cotter pins, drill bits, Dear Vi: My favorite recycling idea is this: After the suction cups of a bathtub mat wear down, we use it on the bottom shelf of a kitchen cupboard where we keep pots and pans, or under the sink where detergents and an assortment of cleaning products are stored. These mats never seem to wear out and they provide a surface cushioned, non-sli- p that is easy to clean. He demanded complete obedience and subservience, including having her stand beside him as he ate to cut and salt his food. He rationalized this activity saying that her only hope in life was to be of use to a husband, if in fact anyone would want her. Even when Sally scored 160 on an IQ test, her father assured her the teachers were she was only a girl. wrong she believed him. Sally suffered from emotional abuse. Emotional abuse Unfortunately refers to belittling, rejecting, and in general not providing a positive, loving' emotional atmosphere in which' a child can grow. . Emotionally abusive parents may have unrealistically high expectations of their offspring. When the children are unable to meet these expectations, they receive verbal criticism that makes them, feel incompetent and generally "bad. Children suffering from emotional abuse may exhibit much the same behavior as those suffering from physical abuse. For example, Tom, psychologically abused by his father, didn't have the emotional strength necessary to learn to read in first, second, or third grades. He just sat in cheerful school. Outwardly and happy, his way of coping was to turn all negative incidents into jokes, but he manifested his problems by bizarre behavior such as eating his shirts. Emotional abuse is as serious as physical or sexual abuse. Many situations are not as extreme or clear-cas those suggested here. Teachers can help these child victims with attention and encouragement . to express themselves. Parents may need counseling to help them with their own problems which result in abusing their children ut 18-3- 0, FINAL PUBLIC HEARING those Teacher to Parent sheet then store them together in a plastic bag? The other cups hold a variety of foods. If there is an empty cup, we often put a small toy or flower in it to make his mealtime more fun. Mildred P. Cure and survival rates fall off dramatically with increasing size of cancers and particularly if the cancer has spread to distant sites.
