It has given me the chance to experience opportunities that are just dreams for many others. My goals of having a good education and furthering my musical talents was provided through the Miss Summit County scholarship of $1,000. They also provided me funds to prepare for the Miss Utah Pageant. Preparing for the Miss Utah Pageant has been stressful, but has also taught me to be confident and take on full responsibility. The Miss Utah Pageant is the 16th through the 20th. To let you know what is involved in the preparation of the Miss Utah Contest, I'll briefly describe some of the details. The pageant consists of four categories. These are swimsuit, evening gown, talent and interview. My talent consists of an opera song entitled "Musetta's Waltz from the opera La Boheme. I will be performing it Thursday, June 18. 1 spent many hours designing and making my evening gown. It is royal blue with flowers and sequins. The final night is the 20th. That is when they announce the top 10; I hope to be a part of that! Marilyn competition, evening gown competition, interview competition, and (private) swimsuit competition. The range of talent is varied and no young woman must necessarily be trained in any specific field. The swimsuit competition will be held in the afternoon, for judges only. The young lady chosen as Miss Summit County will go on to compete in the Utah State Fair and Miss Utah pageants. She will reign over all Summit County Fair activities and represent our county at various other events. Jepson would like to express my appreciation to all those who contributed. They were' very generous and it shows me how much the people of Summit County care. I hope each girl who is considering trying out for Miss Summit County doesn't hesitate. I do not regret it in the least for this is a year I will never forget! I The Miss Summit County pageant serves our county weli. It focuses attention on the high caliber of young ladies in our area. School HMsfrSct in Kanius and rebuild it on the same site. The construction bids would be let next spring, with completion scheduled for the end of 1989. Without bonding, the District would have to phase in the necessary improvements with a completion date in 1993 and 1994. If bonds are issued the Board anticipates repaying all of its debt by 1994 without a tax Increase. The state has already equalized each district's maintenance and operations budget through the minimum school program. This cosl (lie South Summit School District $7,(XX).000 this year. There is a movement in the state to also equalize the capital portion of a district's budget. In fact, in the last legislative session, a bill was passed equalizing two mills of the capital outlay budget. This will cost the district S4(X).(XX) in 1987. The Board feels that it is critical to take advantage of its favorable financial condition that has come about due to large scale oil production in the northern outlay part of the District. The Board Tears that not doing so now would allow the state to continue to collect money from the District without the District obtaining any benefit. School district reorganization has been spoken about for some time. What form it would ever take is uncertain, but the idea is to take two or more districts and reorganize them into a single district. The issue for voters to consider is whether a re- inclined to build a new high school in Kamas as the current Board is. By building the high school now the Board feels that it will not have to worry about some of the possible negative effects of reorganization because there will be a new high school, middle school and elementary school right in Kamas. organized district, if it ever comes about, would be as Kamas.
