Show May 22-Ma-y 28, 1980 for tine Coumtfy "It is like having unlimited resources. They will help me with recruitment and will send people out to help my own hospital. Shaw adds that it is AHSs intention to use the hospital as a nucleus for a network of county clinics. The first clinic a new modular unit will appear behind the hospital within 45 days, housing a new laboratory, pharmacy staff set up the new equipment and they are sending me to a seminar on theory and management and business offices in addition to providing out patient clinic facilities. A second clinic will open in Kamas in June with a third to follow in the Prospector area of Park City in July. At , the same time intensive reconstruction will be under- way at the hospital. Patient rooms will be completely revamped with the addition of sophisticated 7D FOCUS cardiac monitoring units and a new patient call system. Accord- ing to Director of Nursing Karen Ekker, Advanced Health Systems is bending over backwards to upgrade the hospitals services. Ekker adds that AHS had upgraded the nurses salar- ies and has provided monthly inservice educational pro? grams including video tapes of trauma and emergency procedures, emergency ob- stetrics and pediatric care. techniques. Perhaps the most essential part of the AHS program is their ability to draw profes- sionals to the area. A person, suddenly in need of hospita- lization will go where- - his physician sends him. It is hoped that families will develop a rapport with the - ' physicians of the various AHS clinics who will then channel cases to the County Hospital. Dr. Bjornson will arrive in Coalville the first ' week in August, Dr. Hogan e will establish a practice in Kamas and Susan Reinhimer, MD and a second physican will set up practice in Park City. By September, full-tim- Suihmit County residents will see a vast increase in locally available health ser- vices. ' There are two compelling reasons why a local hospital Hospital Iitan facility. Shaw explains that 90 percent of .the residents of Summit County have health insurance. When those premiums are paid to a Salt Lake Hospital the profits spread in a diffuse pattern over a huge area, Conversely insurance pay- ments covering patients at the Summit County Hospital will be used to improve that hospital. The equipment purchased then will be tailored to the needs of the local residents and the benefits of increased use of the hospital will remain in the community, The other reason, and the one I suspect which sus- tained the hospital through its lean years is the ability of a local hospital to provide personalized health care. Part of the reason people live in Summit County rather than Salt Lake City is that they like to deal with people they know. Karen Ekker explains that we will be able to offer not only truly professional services but also a personalized level of care.
