Start up of a project takes lot oftime and effort, beginning with permission from State Corrections. But, through the diligent efforts of the sheriff and his staff, the projects begin to take shape. The Association ofGovernments has already obtained permission from the state to utilize scrap material from the housing demonstration project soon to be underway at tha jail. The nice thing about this ia that the inmates are kept busy and that makes her job easier. In addition to that, if inmates are content. State Corrections ia satisfied, and that moans inmates will continue to come, thereby creating the revenue that pays the bills. With arrival of another 20 inmates sometime next month, the count will be about 140. Over the next year, with 140 inmates the revenue generated will be about $2 million. For tho next project, inmates will crochet animals, Christmas stockings, mittens, ecarvee, and hata for local organisations to distribute at Christmas time. Donations of yarn are still a WANTED item at tho justice center. They can be dropped off at the Uintah Basin Association of Governments Office (located in the Century 21 plaxa in Roosevelt), the Childrens Justice Center, and the Duchesne County Justice Complex, or call and the agencies will be glad to pick the yarn up. Shop the' 'Classifieds The Vernal Temple is one of 12 individuals, projects and organizations recognized by the Utah Heritage Foundation at the Annual Her-itag-e Awards dinner Friday, Oct 16 at tha Union Pacific Depot in Salt Lake City. Each award recipient has made a contribution to preserving Utahs Heritage. The 1998 projects represent a wide variety of preservation efforts throughout Utah, said lisbeth Henning, executive director to UHF. Across the state, Utahns are recognizing the importance and of preserving their heritage. From prominent structures like Old Mein in Logan and the Venial LDS Temple, to a modest bungalow in Salt Lake City, individuals and organisations are preserving our past to be eqjqyed in the fixture, she said. The award recipients were selected by a jury of professionals in design, construction and preserve-turn- . The commitment of Vernal citizens to preserving their local heritage no doubt influenced the resto-ratio-n of the Vernal Temple of the LDS Church. It is a sensitive adaption of the building, including an unobtrusive addition which allows the historic tabemade to stand. The awards dinner is open to the public.
