Jimmie Fraley Smith (Daddy) J. Smith Bobby M. Slaugh B. Lurrine Alexander Slaugh L. Bobby M. Slaugh, age 54, passed away of a heart attack March 10, 1998 at his home, at Indian Bench, UT. He was born April 2, 1943 in Vernal, UT, a son of Melbern (Bud) Slaugh and Donna Rae Olivers. Bob worked most of his life in the oil industry as a driller, drilling supervisor and pumper and was currently employed by CNG. He also worked as a ranch hand and cowboy where he acquired his real love, riding horses and roping. He could be seen riding his paint horse, roping steers in the arena he built all by himself. Bob also loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and sportsman. He respected and valued all animals, both tame or in the wild. He enjoyed his family and friends and was always ready to help anyone in need. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War serving in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Piedmont. He was preceded in death by a brother; Christy N. Slaugh. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14, 1998, 11:00 a.m. at the Ashley Creek Ward LDS Chapel, Vernal, UT. Burial at the Alexander Rene Vaunda Lurrine Johnstone Alexander, 83, died March 11, 1998 at the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. She was born May 11, 1914 in Roosevelt the daughter of Reynold M. and Cora Wilmoth Sprouse Johnstone. She married Alden H. Alexander October 14, 1933 in Vernal, Utah. He died December 4, 1987. She had two children, Alden Lynn Alexander and Joan Alexander. Joani, her husband, Keith Hanson, and daughter Debbie were killed in a tragic automobile accident in 1960. We believe Rene is having a joyous reunion with them. She is survived by her son, Alden (Sharon) Alexander, Lynn Kaysville, UT; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Burbank, (Chris) Wheeler, CA; Gerald (Amy) Alexander, Paul, ID; Brian (Angela) Alexander, Longmont CO; Amy Alexander, Kaysville, UT; David (Moma) Alexander, Boulder, CO; Todd Alexander and Lauri Allexander, both Kaysville, UT; and five great grandchildren. Jimmie Fraley Smith (Daddy), age 73, of Roosevelt, died March 14, 1998 at home from a valiant battle with cancer, with his children and wonderful grandchildren by hisside. He was bom December 24, 1924 in Hominy, Oklahoma to Burl and Nellie Friend Smith. He entered the armed services in 1941. Served five years as a radioman second class, in the South Pacific Fleet When he returned he married a long time love, Neva Lucille Atkinson, May 29, 1946 in Sedan, Kansas. A family business brought them to Utah, they bought a farm and started their family. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, retiring in 1980. He then began Smith Wood with his son and they operated it from 1984 to 1997. A big love to him were his horses, a love made stronger because of the involvement with his children and grandchildren, they were together from the race track to He will be greatly missed by all he touched. , Sincerely, The Richard Checketta Family J. Curtis Jewel Ann Weaver Curtis, age 49, of Salt Lake City, died Monday, March 9, 1998 in a Salt Lake hospi- tal. She was born July 22, 1948 in Trenton, New Jersey to Raymond and Ivyle Doris Capps Weaver. Jewel is survived by children, Jennifer Ann Ponton, Salina; James C. Ponton, Jr., Salt Lake City; Jayson Curtis Ponton, Livingston, MT; two brothers and two sisters. Memorial services will be held at a later date. He is survived by his wife, Neva, of Roosevelt; five daughters, one son, Rosemary (Verl) Larsen, Salt Lake City; Cheryl Hatch, Mesquite, NV; Jamirfie (Burke) Lindsey, Roosevelt; Logan Smith, Roosevelt, Katherine Smith, Murray; Kristine (Mike) Kofford, Mountain Home; 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; brothers, Elmer Smith, Fritz, TX; Stanly Smith, Bamsdal, OK. He was preceded in death by parents, infant sons, Raymond and Roger Paul, brothers, Corbet Smith, Wilbur Smith and sister, Thelma Roller. Graveside services held Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Roosevelt Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion. Sincerely, Christina Nation m Pauline Winkler Shana Loertscher - 454-397- 6 Sunday, March 8, Alan and Elizabeth Parry, with their children, Ammon, Miriah, Jacob, Morgan and, Lauren, went to the ward of Elizabeth's parents, James and Eunice Pace, ofSalt Lake City where they participated with the rest of the Pace family in their parents ward sacrament meeting program. Elizabeth was one of the speakers. The Paces, James and Eunice, will enter the Senior Missionary Training Center in Provo on March 17, as they prepare for their mission to Italy. Velma Monsen has completed the therapy sessions with which she has been involved and is now at home. She will need to gain her strength and vigor back which we hope will be soon. Cleona Remington is staying with her daughter Jeanne and husband, Jim Reidhead, in Montwell this week. The previous week her daughter, Cheryl Thacker of Orem was her caretaker. The Reidheads daughter, and Cleonas granddaughter Monique, is being married in the Vernal Temple on March 13. Kelly and Mary Ann Goodrich entertained Kelly Chute of Regina, Canada, in their home recently. He spent Sunday afternoon and evening with the Goodrich family. Coming for a week's vacation which they spent with their parents, and Maxine Todd, were Phillip and Brigitte Todd of Salt Lake City. Also visiting in Bluebell was Stephanie Todd of Orem. A business related trip to Texas for Bruce and Carla Todd of Roosevelt brought their children, Keven, Bryan and Trevor, to stay with their grandparents, Howard and Maxine Todd, in Bluebell while they are gone. Participating in the annual Kings Peak District Klondike Derby at the Bacon Park, February 2728, were the Bluebell Scouts and Blazer Scouts. There were in attendance: Adult leaders-Rus- h Loertscher, Rex Bird, and Curtis Miles, who were joined by parents Burt Bird and Jack Wood, to work with the boys in their achievements. In the Bluebell Scout Troop Number 267, Scouts Guy Gardner, Jace Jenkins, Tyson Iorg, Tex Bird, Sam Williams, and Isaac Bird were awarded first place in firebuilding, breaking the record for the shortest time on record at the Klondike Derby Camps. This activity required the use offlint and steel. They also came in with a fourth place in the area of lashing. They merited first place of the Spirit Award which is determined on the wearing of the uniform and proper attitude display throughout the encampment. The boys of the Blazer Scouts attending were Brett Wood, Rory Williams, Jacob Bird, Adam Monsen and Matthew Miles. Elder Rhett Swasey of Boneta came home from the Australia Brisbane Mission Thursday, February 26. He was met at the Salt Lake Airport by his parents, Melvin and Dixie Swasey. Saturday, March 7, the Swaseys held a welcome home pot luck dinner in his honor in the Lake Fork Ward building which was attended by the Gary and Paula Jenkins family and Howard and Fontella Jenkins of Bluebell. On Sunday March 8, the same family group of Jenkins attended Rhett's mission report which was held in the Lake Fork Ward. Dave and Jessica Jenkins Fletcher of Nephi visited at home with Gary and Paula Jenkins this last weekend.' They came to attend, the mission report ofJessicas cousin, Elder Rhett Swasey recently returned from his mission in Australia. High Attending the State School Wrestling Championship competition which was held in West Valley City at the E Center, were Bluebell community parents: Gary and Paula Jenkins who, with the rest of their boys, Justin, Jace and James, watched their older son, John, take second place in his 160 pound weight division in the state. 2-- A Sunday, March 8, a farewell testimonial was held in Neola 1st Ward for Merritt Mitchell, son ofDr. Mark E. and Valinda Williams Mitchell. He will enter the MTC on March 18 to serve in the Torreon Mexico Mission, North Central Mexico. After the meeting family and friends met at the cross roads Senior Citizen building for a luncheon. 62 members were in attendance. Saturday, March 7 at 5:30 p.m., Meda Murphy and her daughter Candice Rollins and two little children came to spend the night at Medas folks, Don and Venice Mecham's and go to the reception on the same night for Chet Stevens and Michelle Graves. Don and Venice tended their two great grand children while they went to the reception. This was the very first time they had seen their little granddaughter who is eight months old. Her brother is three years old. The Mechams really eqjoyed getting acquainted with them. They all left Sunday morning to go back to their homes in Logan. Pam Peterson and her folks Bill and Veva Tollefson and other family members all went over to Ron ft MaryJean Tollefson, on Sunday, March 1, to celebrate a couple of birthday's for Kari Tollefson and Anna Brown. Stephen and Lisa Remund had a baby bom to them on Feb. 27. He weighed 8 lbs 2 oz. He was 20 long. His grandparents are Lloyd Remund of Duchesne. Alrick and Beth Myrin of Altamont. Great Grandparents are Ralph and Velma Dart of Roosevelt also Katherine Myrin of Salt Lake. Gladys Nielsen was in California for two weeks. She visited with her son David and his wife Rita Turner then she went to visit with her sister Rena Hanaet. She spent 10 days before she returned home. Emmett and Dorothy Evans went to Blanding with the Music and Solos. It was the Regional Tournament. They were gone Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, Dorothys father Don Golightley was operated on in the Logan Hospital but has gone home and is doing good. R. G. and Bonnie Ross spent last week down in Cedar City. Bonnies mother Ida Frandson ofElsonor had surgery. Christine Nation of Bridgeland, came home on Friday, from the hospital where she spent 10 days after she had an accident at home. Her Daughter Wilma and Dan Beeler have been spending some time with her. The Emmett Evans went up to Preston Idaho and took their granddaughter Shawna Reilly with them. They visited with Dorothys folks and they also attended a Wedding reception dinner for Dorothys Niece Amanda Morson of Logan. Betty Hamblin was in Salt Lake for a couple of days this last week. She spent time with her daughter Romanza Hamblin. They saw the Titantie and saw Donny Osmond in Joseph and the Many Technicolor Coat. On Sunday, the Evans went out to West Jordan to the blessing of Emmetts niece's baby girl and then they had dinner at Emmetts sister's home. On Thursday, March 19, we at the Gateway Senior Center will be celebrating all of the birthdays of the people that are signed up with us. We give you a birthday card, sing happy birthday and give each on of you a certificate for a free lunch. We always have this on the 3rd Thursday of the month, so please come. Easter Bunnies visit the Fairpark early East will come early to the Utah State Fairpark when over 500 rabbits hop to the Showring March 21 for the Wasatch Rabbit Breeders Association annual Rabbit Show. Approximately 45 different breeds of rabbits will be represented by exhibitors from Utah, Idaho, Colo., Wyo., and other Western states. Breeds include Rex, Mini Rex, Satins, Netherlands Dwarfs, Californians, Angoras and others. Judging will take place all day and include awards for the Best of the Breeds and the Best Rabbit Overall. A separate rabbit judging will be held simultaneously for youth years old. The Wasatch Rabbit Breeders Show ill be held in the Showring at the Utah State Fairpark, 155 North 1000 West. The event runs Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
