Smith was named president of University of Utah Wednesday morning at a special meeting of the Utah State Board of Regents. said Dr. Smith was well regarded by professors. CEU Deans Honor List Seven residents of Eastern Utah and the Uintah Basin area were among the 234 students named on the College of Eastern Utahs Deans List for spring quarter according to Jan Young, the director of admissions and records. A students must cany at least 12 credit hours and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be named on the Deans List. Computer seminars for small business owners Utah business owners and managers who want to learn to use personal computers to improve their management skills will have the opportunity to attend special hands-oseminars planned in five Utah communities this summer, beginning June 13 in Logan. The Association of Small Business Development Centers and Microsoft, Inc., developed the curriculum and is sponsoring the seminars. The first was June 13 at Utah State University; the second June 15 at Dixie College in St George; the third will be July 1 at Snow College in Ephraim; the fourth July 7 at Southern Utah University in Cedar City; and the fifth at College of Eastern Utah in Price on a date yet to be ann Hansen reports for Naval duty Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Robert J. The conference will be attended by Interior computer managers from throughout the United States. Melanie is a Computer Systems Analyst, employed at Bureau of Reclamations headquarters office in Denver. She coordinates Reclamations PC networking program, consisting of 5000 PCs and 92 local area networks, throughout the 17 western states. Gollaher of the Utah Small Business Development Center says the course ..will explore four main areas of business challenges, and suggest a solution for each challenge. Participants will learn how to track accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll; how to generate management reports; how to work with financial statements and compute cash flow and financial ratios; how to combine a customer database list and form letter for collection letters or promotional letters; and how to observe breakeven analysis and calculate net present value and using spreadsheets and charts. Analyzing financial performance, exploring investment alternatives, and managing and improving cash flow will also be taught. The seminar is designed for business owners, managers, office managers, and accounting managers who work for retail businesses, service companies, farm and ranch operations, and manufacturing firms. Small business development centers across the United States and sponsoring similar seminars. For the registration fee of $30, each participant will receive a computer disk containing practice files and business templates, and lessons workbook. These materials are designed to help the small business owner gain a competitive edge by becoming familiar with the use of a computer and Microsoft Works multifunction software. Participants will receive braining in word processing, spreadsheets, database promotional mailers and collection letters. Previous experience with computers is not necessary. Persons interested in attending should contact one of the USBDC offices in the communities where the seminars will be held.
