Show Page 8 - UINTAH BASIN STANDARD. July 3. 1991 Keep your 4th of July festivities tragedy free For thousands of Utahns July is filled with celebrations, parades, picnics, barbecues and time with family and friends. It is also the busiest month of the year for fireworks. According to the American Pyrotechnics Association, more fireworks are used for Americas celebration of independence than for any other holiday in the world. For every commercial display, many more fireworks are exploded by people in back yards, fields and streets across the country. Unfortunately, these festivities can lead to tragedy. Each year, approximately 12,000 people are injured in fire works-relate- d accidents, Almost SO percent of those treated in emergency rooms are under age 15. Fireworks usually cause burns to the eyes, face and hands and most often happen when a firecracker either explodes in someones hand, is dropped on a foot or explodes in a pocket. of "The fourth and twenty-fourt- h July can be one of hte most dangerous times of the year," said Robert Parenti, President of the Utah Safety Council. "Each year we see 33, Township 3 South, the United States at the lime of sale on the front entrance of the Duchesne County LEGAL NOTICES AMENDED NOTICE OF TRUSTEES SALE The following described property will be sold it public auction to the highest bidder, payable in lawful money of I T 1 Range 3 West, Uintah Special Meridian; thence North 8 degrees 37 minutes East 668 feet; thence North 660 feet; thence West 770 feet; thence South 1320 feet; thence East 670 feet to tin point of beginning. Boyce, Successor Trustee Published in the Uintah Basin Standard July 3, 10, A 17, 1991. Courthouse, Duchesne, Utah, on July 30, 1991 , at the hour of 11;00 a.m. of said day; for the purpose of foreclosing a trust deed dated July 27, 1979 executed by Ray Malinski and Shirlie Malinski, as Trustors, covering real property located in Duchesne, Duchesne County, Utah and more particularly described as follows: Beginning at a point 630 feet West of the East quarter corner of Section children seriously injured because they mishandled fireworks." Utah law allows the sale of fireworks far the summer from June 20th through July 25th. However, the law only allows the discharge of fireworks three days prior to...the day of and...three days following the fourth and of July. The law also twenty-fou- r stipulates the use of some Class C such as sparklers, fireworks, fountains and snakes. Firecrackers and bottle rockets are strictly against the law. While the Utah Safety Council urges people to avoid all home fireworks and to attend official fireworks celebrations, the Council offers the following precautions for those who choose to have home firework displays. Never allow young children to use fireworks. Youngsters are the d group most afflicted by fire injuries. Establishing firework rules before the holidays is a good way to reduce the treat of injury. Buy fireworks appropriate for the age of your children. Even seemingly harmless sparklers bum at 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit and can cause disfiguring burns. Establish emergency procedures. Teach children to "stop, drop and rdH" if their clothes catch fire; make sure they know how to call your local fire department and ambulance service; demonstrate how to extinguish fireworks by using water or an extinguisher. Follow the directions and never ignite more than one at a works-relate- time. ACCEPTING BIDS ( Never use fireworks indoors and never cany fireworks in your ) pocket. Never a firework that has failed to go off, always have water if children are using sparklers. Children need supervision and parents need to teach their children what is acceptable when dealing with fireworks in order to make the holiday both festive and safe. Tips for Parents Parenting teenagers is one ofthe most challenging teaks today. Here are some tipi to help parents work with teens: 1. Stay out of power struggles. Attempt to win cooperation by asking for help, opinions, suggestions. 2. Encourage any positive efforts (he teen makes. Dont criticize. 3. Different values are okay. You can communicate your values and listen seriously to your teens point of view. Agree to disagree. 4. Use I messages express your feelings and concerns. They dont blame or criticize. "When (this happens) I feel (hurt) because (it sounds like you're mad at me)." 5. Discipline is a learning process. Stay calm. Discipline needs to be brief and fair. Provide consequences to teens actions that are within the limits of his ability and safety (chorea, use of phone, tv, etc) Often discipline problems can be prevented by giving teens choices within appropriate limits. "Either put away the things you left in the hall or I will put them in the garage to get them out of the way." 6. Remember, they wont be teenagers forever (it just seems that way) Teens want to feel valued and important like all of us. Above all, keep your sense of humor.
